i just recently got my dvd burner and started burning dvds so im really new....but alot of the dvds im burning whne i play them on the PS2 it says "disc cannot be read" or it plays and skips alot and then says "disc cannot be read". Does any1 know if its the PS2 doin that or is it cuz im usin Memorex+R DL RW....instead of -R...cux the guy at frys...said +R is for data and -R is for video..does any1 know the answer, or is it something else thats wrong that i havent mentioned...please help ima newwwb

memorex disk are realy bad try sony or vertibrim.remember to burn half the speed that the disk can do.16x=8x

the idiot at frys has no idea what his talking about lol. try booktyping the Dual-Layer DVD+R to DVD-ROM plus burn at 2.4x or no faster than 4x. the memorex DL will code out as Ritek which is ok media BUT you would be MUCH better off using Verbatim DVD+R DL booktyped to DVD-ROM

dude aabbccdd, pretend im really comp stupid...cuz well at burning dvds iam.....wut the hell r u talki bout wen u said this.....try booktyping the Dual-Layer DVD+R to DVD-ROM plus burn at 2.4x or no faster than 4x. the memorex DL will code out as Ritek which is ok media BUT you would be MUCH better off using Verbatim DVD+R DL booktyped to DVD-ROM
and still does any1` know why its sayin "cannot read diasc"..is it my dvd the ps2

ok what are you burning with(brand of drive) ? and at what speed did you burn?
booktyping (bitsetting) a DVD+R to DVD-ROM makes the disc the most compatible for playing back on any dvd player . you can do this with some drives. if they have software to do it or use DVD Info Pro or DVD Decrypter. read here

you PS2 isn't reading your disc probably because your disc/burn speed etc. isn't compatible with the PS2 so try doing what i suggested

Rewritable discs(CD-RW, DVD+/-RW, DVD-RAM) have far less reflectivity than dye-based discs such as CD-R and DVD+/-R. That's because the semi-metal alloys used in rewritable discs have litte contrast between the write marks that simulate the pits on a regular CD or DVD. The difference between them is only the difference between melted and crystallized versions of the metal. Dye-based discs, on the other hand, allow the light to pass through the dye and back on the unburned marks and block the light entirely on the "burned" marks.
You will have better results with dye-based discs than with rewritable discs. The guy at Frys is wrong. The comment about Memorex is a bit of a generalization since I have seen comments from posters who have used them that they can be Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, CMC, or Ritek. Verbatim itself uses MBI, CMC, Prodisc, and others to manufacture their discs; so generalizations can be tricky.

Here we are again ;-) This time I agree with your statement and it was the first thing I noticed "RW" This is more than likely the problem kunalk is having. The RW format just isn't very compatable with every drive out there and playing through the PS2 is probably not going to produce very good results at all.
So kunalk get some + or - R discs, not the more expensive RW disks. RW are good for data and practice. I wouldn't make it a habit to burn your movies or games on RW media.

That is the fastest speed at which those DL media can be recorded. You might want to slow down to 2.4X for better results. Your initial statement was DVD+R DL RW. No such disc exists. It is either DVD+R DL or DVD+RW. (Only JVC has developed a DVD-RW DL, and it does not work on anything at all!)
If your disc is a DL disc, slow down the recording to 2.4X for better results. There are some 8X DL media available, but they are all apparently IS (inverse stack, a different method of manufacturing DL discs) and not likely to record well in early DL drives.
