I followed this thread for Spybot not downloading updates with socket error #10061 and yellow triangle with ! inside. It fixed my slow torrents download speeds. i use abc and i connected with 430kbps (dependant upon #of seeds, usually slower). anyhow, the general steps i used (1)unistall Spybot, abc torrent downloader. (2) turn off windows firewall, Zone Alarm. (3)could not turn off norton antivirus, so start>run>msconfig go to tabs services and startup. uncheck everything with symantic, no flash, windows firewall, ZoneAlarm etc. (4)reboot. (5)download (from link above before doing anything) HijackThis, run it. (6) (download smitfraud before doing anything) and run smitfraudfix.cmd. choose update, then clean, yes. (7) reboot into safe mode and run smitfraud again (i couldnt update because it didn't load drivers) just clean, yes. (8)reboot (9)run HijackThis (10)run smitfraud.cmd (11) start>run>msconfig restore everything back on. (12)reboot (13) install fresh download of Spybot 1.4 ( my norton antivirus popped up-allow always. then Zone Alarm-allow. (14)install fresh download of adaware and run.(15)install fresh download abc.exe ( norton popped up and said- allow all ports-yes. Zone Alarm - allow.) FAST NOW. (windows firewall never asked anything. i guess its pretty smart.) have fun. big-D.

thanks hursty, actually, it was supposed to be in peer 2 peer catagory. sorry. dyslexic i suppose. sincerely fred. ps. worked for me. the main program that worked was smitfraud in safe mode, highjack this is to get a log file and post on their website, it might do other stuff, but they said run it, so i did. i ran lavasoft adaware on my on. the antivirus could only be not loaded or unistalled, i chose to not load using msconfig. as far as being wierd, well computers are a wierd animal. the weird part was that i did post in the wrong place, thanks for that hursty. i've used smitfraud in windows 2000 before and it fixed my system then. good luck, fred.

Ok, message a moderator (DDP, Creaky, Nephilim), and politely ask them to move your thread to the Peer 2 Peer section.

fredhere,
I closed your original post because it was unintelligible and incoherent. When I close a thread it means the subject is over and done with. It DOES NOT mean start a new, identical thread (in the wrong forum no less) then start yet another incoherent thread complaining to god only knows who about being "disrespected".
If you want to make a guide to help folks out then by all means do it - we'd be happy to have it BUT if it is to remain open and have any hope of helping anyone it needs to have correct spelling, punctuation and spacing.
If you're new to forums or are not sure how things work around here I'll give you a great tip - the guys with "Moderator" under their nick are the guys that you especially want to be agreeable with because they can make you go away if you aren't.

Any open port through a firewall, not specifically associated with an application or data type is a security risk. That's why active x is such a stupid thing..
please do some research before posting about historical facts.
A program called "Elk Cloner" is credited with being the first computer virus to appear "in the wild" ? that is, outside the single computer or lab where it was created. Written in 1982 by Rich Skrenta, it attached itself to the Apple DOS 3.3 operating system and spread by floppy disk. This virus was originally a joke, created by the high school student and put onto a game. The game was set to play, but release the virus on the 50th time of starting the game. Only this time, instead of playing the game, it would change to a blank screen that read a poem about the virus named Elk Cloner. The computer would then be infected.
The first PC virus was a boot sector virus called (c)Brain, created in 1986 by two brothers, Basit and Amjad Farooq Alvi, operating out of Lahore, Pakistan. The brothers reportedly created the virus to deter pirated copies of software they had written. However, analysts have claimed that the Ashar virus, a variant of Brain, possibly predated it based on code within the virus.
I can't make head nor tail of that original post, and TBH I can't be bothered trying to translate it.
C'mon Neph.. close it down before it becomes another excuse for hundreds of pointless posts. ;-)
