Hey Guys I'm new to the forums so please bear with me. I have recently purchased some of the abovementioned Datawrite Mach 4 Reds and have backed up some of my home movies on to these. I have noticed that the video keeps skipping in the dvd player. I tried another player and I was getting the same result. I am using a pioneer dvr-109 with latest firmware. It backs up my data fine just no good for videos I am just wondering if anyone else has had the same experience. Is it me or has datawrite become increasingly less reliable? I was a datawrite yellow user for a while but recently the quality of the dye has been poor.

If the data are being retrieved with no problem or cyclical redundancy errors--that just means that the drive's error correction has repeatedly tried to correct an error multiple times after multiple passes--there may not be a significant problem with the discs. Video is different because the file structure has to be identical to what the DVD player expects and the tracks and information have to be legible for the player. That introduces the player as another variable.

Different discs may or may not be readable in the DVD player. The first tempatation is to blame the discs for poor quality, but there are many other possibilities that also have to be considered. It sounds as though these are your first video recordings, so the DVD player could also pose a problem. You can try other brands of DVD recordable discs to see if they work better with your Pioneer drive and with the player. If so, stick with the ones that work for video recordings.

I'm putting it down to the media as i have tried it on a pioneer player I own which normally plays anything thats thrown at it and Ive tried it on another player now with the same problems. Datawrite have gone down the toilet which is a shame they used to sell well at the local computer fairs.
