I have a viewsonic 32"hd tv
hd digtal cable box
ps3
xbox 360
3 port HDMI switcher
i'm looking to get the SONY DAV-X1 dream system
i want to plug all of them with the HDMI connection except the 360
and get everything coming through the SONY DAV-X1 dream system

I just went over the specs of the Sony DAV-X1 and here's one way to set up your system:

VIDEO:

PlayStation3 -----\
Sony DAV-X1 ------> 3-Way HDMI Switcher ---> HDMI Input on HDTV
HD Cable Box -----/

XBox 360 ---> Component Input on HDTV

AUDIO:

This is trickier. The specs on the Sony (from cnet.com) says that it has 1 digital optical input and 3 digital coaxial inputs. Now you need to connect the PS3, 360 and cable box to the Sony using digital connections to take advantage of the Sony's audio processing. The Sony has no HDMI inputs so you can't use the HDMI for audio. If your cable box has digital coax outputs here's one way to do it:

Cable Box ---> Digital Coax Input on Sony DAV-X1
PS3 ---> Digital Optical Input on Sony DAV-X1
XBox360 ---> Optical to Coax converter ---> Digital Coax Input on Sony DAV-X1

Here's an inexpensive but reliable optical to coax converter:
