wow, 20X burners... thats redick, not about the burn speed but about the actual velocity of the disc at 20X. I dont' want to look up numbers to calculate the CLV but i bet its redick!
hopefully crap media 'certified' for 20X wont blow up in the drive. cant imagine how they keep the disc from wobbling out of control.

The Lite-on 20A1H will record at 20X on only three discs: CMC 16X DVD+R and Taiyo Yuden DVD+/-R. The results with all three exceed the PIE spec with figures of 700-800 with CMC and up to 900 with both TY models. The maximum rpm of the drive is close to its theoretical limit of 11,500 rpm. Oddly enough, these discs and the Verbatim discs produce excellent results at 18X, but the time savings at 18X is only 31 seconds faster than 16X, and 20X "saves" 17 seconds--where's the "savings" if the disc won't work?--compared to 18X. These are maximum figures only attainable if the disc is filled to capacity. Any less full, and there is less time saved.
Neither the DVD Forum nor the DVD+RW Alliance has written any specs for 18X or 20X recording. They realize the folly involved. The 20X drives do have beefed up diodes and bearings; so they are better than standard drives, but running them at full capacity just saves seconds and wastes discs. Magazine reviewers, of course, will rate the drives better because they are faster. It's all a horse race to them. The real value lies in how well the drives record discs, how many different types the firmware supports, and how well and how long the manufacturer supports the drive with firmware updates. Most prefer that users buy new drives rather than update their old ones. There is no reason to abandon a good 8X or 16X drive at this point unless one really needs DL recording because the new 8X DL media will be inverse stack production, and the older DL drives are poor at recording them.

well i still swear by 8x for most of my burners/burns, or just 4x if trying to use MCC004 (especially when burning them via USB2.0 burners).
20x pah!

there was a episode of Myth Busters where they put DVDs on a super high rpm spinning thing (circular saw i think). The DVD just blew up. Literally blew up. under high speed camera the disc was wobbling like crazy.

I have a 20x DVD Writer, but I have never burned that fast (mostly x8), but I get a new burner about every 3 to 6 months because I am usually building another system then ;-) LOL What can I say it's a hobby of mine. I usually just sell my other system for more than I paid to build it anyway so i don't loose anything ;-) Anyway there is absolutley nothing wrong with the 20x speed drive it works flawless, but I certainly wouldn't recommend burning at that speed.

Same burner I just bought, works like a charm, however I don't burn that fast.

Moi je suis britannique de Bristol, mais je suis ravi de la France depuis 40 ans, et, franchement, je préfère la langue et la culture française. Je suis grand fan de la groupe du rock Indochine.
