Try this:

Right then take these steps first:

1.) Turn your "PSP" off (By holding the power button for 5 seconds) and then take a UMD Disc out if a UMD Disc is already inside.
2.) Go into Recovery Mode by holding the "R-button" then turn the "PSP" on.(The top right button of PSP)
3.) Choose "Configuration ->" then make sure you have the following settings:
Skip SCE logo (Whatever setting you want)
Hide corrupt icons (Whatever setting youu want)
Game folder homebrew (currently: 1.50 Kernal)
Autorun program at /PSP/GAME/BOOT/EBOOT.PBP (currently: Disabled)
Use NO-UMD currently: Disabled)
Fake region (currently: Disabled)
Free UMD Region (currently: Enabled)
Select "Back".
4.) Choose "Advanced" then "Advanced configuration ->" and make sure everything in here is disabled.
5.) Go back to the main screen.
6.) Go into "CPU Speed" and have everything here as Default.
7.) Select "Back".
8.) Choose "Exit"
9.) After the "PSP" has rebooted put any UMD Disc in let it appear under "GAME". Then try loading the game then.

Good luck!!

Did you try ripping files from it or did your friend try that? If he did thats probably the problem, he ripped something he should of to make it smaller. If not then its a bad game rip.

Just look up PSP ISO compressor V1.4. Its a awesome application and you can compress from lvl 1-9. Lvl 9 makes it the smallest. The bigger the game, the more compression it recives. So usually a game that is 1GB, will go to around 600-700 MB. Or less.

You could always use UMD Gen 0.4 also, it allows you to rip files from games + convert them with lvl 9 compression to .CSO format. Ciso which is short for "Compressed ISO" works the same as the full ISO but is much smaller.
