the wiikey setup disc boots but wii backups (ive tried 3) don't. does anyone else have this problem and how do you fix it. do you need the special dvd drive to burn them i was under the impression that you only needed them to read it for copying.

If the setup disc boots your wiikey chip must be installed properly.

I had problems myself at first. I read a guide which recommended using Nero,so i went out and bought it but i was still getting unable to read disc errors.

Im using ImgBurn now which is free & really simple to use.

Im not sure if anyone else is in agreement but i find burning them at 4x is best as anything over that for me causes the intro's in the games to jump.

Best using erbatim DVD-R
But i have successfully burnt with some shitty Telsmart +R disc's

Also remember to use Regionfrii if it a different region to your Wii

Hey 400! yeah i had the exact same same problem after i installed my wiikey. after a couple days of frustration i decided to buy a bunch of different types of dvds.. and what do you know! they worked! for some reason the wii would read the GC backups with my other discs but not wii backups.. im currently using maxwell DVD-R brand that i found in walmart and ive been burning at x16 (apparently DVD-R is more compatible. i really dont understand why but thats okay, they work!) oh and your correct, you dont need a special drive to burn games. you need it only to read and rip them. so my advice to you would be to try some different types of dvd's to burn. it worked for me.

on another note. i had a different problem with being able to boot a game and then after i took it out i couldn't boot any of my backups until i had the power off for 15 mins or so. so i tried reformating my wii (which can be done through the wii settings) and it fixed the problem instantly so just in case anyone runs into this problem, thats how i fixed it. BTW i have a D2B chipset.

Hope this helps!

So just to be sure. If the wiikey setup disc works, the installation is correct?

If you are able to read the setup disk, which I assume is burned on DVD+R or DVD-R, then the chip is working fine. The setup disc is burned in gamecube format, which the wii key supports.

What speed are you burning your games at? I found that if I burned at my burner's max speed (16x), I get errors either on boot up or during game play. I burn all my games @ 4x now and get no errors.

I burn the games at auto, but I've noticed it averages about 3x

I found the drive must have been the problem. I reburned the discs with a pioneer and it worked fine.
