I have a Khypermedia 8x DVD+R burner. I have been using this thing for 2 years with no problems. Recently I ran out of Sony DVD+R disks (TYs) and purchased Sony DVD+R 1x-16x Made in Taiwan and Verbatim 1x-16x (made in Taiwan). I have tried both types of disks on 2 different movies with the latest versions of AnyDVD & Clonedvd2. Each time I received and error message when Clonedvd2 begins writing to media. The error says is is due to bad media. I have checked the Khypermedia website and there are no firmware updates. Could the age of the burner be the reason for the errors? Any suggestions?
Thanks

I believe that makes your drive a rebadged Cyberdrive DX082D. The 10SB firmware seems to be a very early 2004 version. Unfortunately, I am having trouble finding a source of firmware for download.
This sites says it will email you the latest firmware, but it didn't work with my Gmail address. maybe you would have better luck.

You have to scroll down to see the Cyberdrive models.

Do I really need that firmware if I am not planning on burning -R disks. If I don't need it I don't want to risk messing up my drive.
Help me out here.

In my opinion you should only do firmware flashes if you absolutely need the feature(s) provided.
You may find that the flashed drive still has problems with those disks you bought.
Mind you, DVD writers are much cheaper than they were in 2004.

Ask 10 people and you'll get 10 opinions.
I have had nothing but good performance from my LG GSA-4160B. The latest model is the 4163B which I expect is just as good.
My friend swears by Pioneer drives. The latest is the DVR-111d which is a very reasonable price here in the UK

I found a good deal on a NEC 7170 dvd burner. I hear these are pretty good. Any advice on it? Should I get it?
