+RW and divx dvd player

Is there any way i can just put AVI movies onto a DVD+RW disc one at a time and be able to watch them on my dvd player? or will i have to finalize the disc, watch it, and then erase it?

If you mean by burning a disk in a number of sessions, most DivX dvd players will play the first session OK, and then will not see the second or later sessions until the disk is finalized.

You can always blank an RW disk in good condition.

That is right. You understand correctly the meaning of "finalize". If you wanted to keep the files already on it, you would have to copy them to another place, for example your hard drive, before erasing the rewritable disk .

To date I have not had a problem with Multisession DVD RW's.This is how I do all my TV Series.I use Nero6.6.14,anything above this I find to be CRAP.Nero seem to be on a down hill slide with its 7.0,some might have problems with other software

yeah, i tried it out and used Nero express (version 7). my philips hts3440 was able to read multiple sessions (tried about 5) but when i delete a file it still uses the space on the dvd...

runcmd3..Even if U delete a file on a DVD RW..It still uses the space.All U really do is delete the name,not the file.U actualy have to format the Disc to regain the space

You can't delete once the disk has been finalized. If you are using a plain "recordable", non-rewriteable disk, you can't erase the disk, of course, the file is still there for ever, and can be recovered later. This could have implications for your privacy if you were unaware of that.

Indochine..I thought we were talking about DVD RW's.On a standard DVD U can't do a Multysession,U are stuck with what U got.So filler up!!!

Standard in 1997, maybe! Why don't people check before they make these sweeping statements? I have burned plenty of multisession DVD-R and +R disks. They read fine in my 2003 Ellion DivX DVD player. I am not such a fool as to post something I know nothing about.
Sorry to disagree, but what you wrote is not quite correct. Not since 2002 at least. With the right burner and software, you can burn 'em but not everybody else can read 'em. Either you are confused or you need to get up to date man! Nowadays, most of the popular DVD creation programs allow multisession on DVD-R and DVD+R.
When the original DVD-R format was agreed in 1997, multisession was not part of the format. This meant that many older burners, DVD-ROM drives, standalone DVD players, games machines, etc, cannot read multisession disks. Later on, in 2002, the format was updated. A feature called Multiborder was added. DVD+R had Multisession right from the start.
Makers brought out drives and issued firmware updates which supported burning and/or reading of DVD-R/RW multiborder discs, and DVD+R Multisession discs.
"Multiborder - DVD-R discs can now have additional data appended once finalised, again enabling users to maximise the disc's capacity" - Pioneer, November 2002.
Now, nearly 5 years later, most modern burners support Multiborder. My LG one I bought in 2004 does. I can create a multisession DVD-R or +R disk and read all the sessions later in the same drive. My friend with his Pioneer can read them too.

Indochine..I just try to answer questions with answers from my personal experience.I have tried to do Multisession on both +&- R's.I've got a Ben-Q DW1655 & Nero 6.14 Ultra,so all is up to date.But I always get a pop-up telling me Multisession is not possible as this is not an RW.As I stated just personal experience.
So maybe their is a possibility of me being able to correct this as a software issue.Do U have any insight that U might be able to contribute
Just an after thought I only use TY's & Ritek DVD-R's,don't particularly like +'s.I've always ended up with more bad sectors on +'s,with different writers[Plextor,Nec,Teac,Ben-Q,etc]

Indochine..No!Don't get that message.But its been a while since I've tried..So I'll try again & tell U exactly what it says.But it will allow to go right to burning with no multi session.This does not really bother me,as I like to use RW's for checking quality & sync problems before burning permanent Discs.Now I only do this with AVI's[TV Series,AVI Movies]
No need for multi sessions with VOB's[DVD]
