Hi, im trying to burn my ps2 backups using my external Lite-on DVD burner. I'm 99% sure im doing the process correctly, but when i try to test the backup, it doesnt seem to work.

Main questions: Can i enable DMA on my external drive? Is booktyping still possible on my external drive?

any other advice would be appreciated. hopefully this can be resolved!

There are many things that could be causing bad game backups such as bad media brand, too fast/slow burn speed etc

To enable DMA on your drive, see this.

Yes, you can still booktype, as long as your drive supports it (google shoudl find that out for you - google the model number) and only on +r dvd media.

External drives are by no means inferior.

Get back to me.

Hi ;-)
USB & DMA do not relate.
How are connected USB or Firewire?
How are you testing?
The DVD's may be OK. But testing via USB/Firewire not supported.
Booktype is supported by Lite-On but you may still have problems getting this to happen with an external drive.
In short you need to provide a lot more info for anyone to give you any meaningful help.
Model - F/W - Connection - Media - Speed of burn - S/W used for both burning & testing - OS.

You learn something new every day, eh Zebadee! Makes sense though, as DMA is to do with IDE channels :P

Thanks for the reply, ill be sure to include more information in this post:

The Exact burner im using is: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106056

and the exact DVD's i bought are:
http://meritline.com/taiyo-yuden-8x-dvd-...er-thermal.html

Im burning at 4x, because every guide seems to say burn at half speed. I'm also using ImgBurn to burn the iso/mds files. I've tired Alcohol 120% but i was having some problems getting it to work (my fault) My drive is connected via USB, not firewire.

Hopefully that is enough information. thank you very very much for helping me out with this, hopefully we can figure this out together!

Hi ;-)
Glad you got it sorted, Prekwenci.
I suggest you tell all for the benefit of others who do likewise.

@Ripperm it's easy to forget. Especially when BenQ users often crossflash with external f/w to go from UDMA2 > UDMA4 when using internal drives.

Yeah, I try to keep my head round all of it, but as you say, there is a lot to remember rly. Ya know, with all the drive specifics like you mentioned and meh, you've been doing this longer and I'm only 15 :-) :-P
Lol @ my excuses :)

Nice to see you posting over here as well as CdFreaks (you're still there I presume ;-) )
