Others have had trouble with this one. I read all the forum topics regarding this movie. I tried using Ripit4me with DVD Decrypter and
DVD shrink also FAB Decrypter I have AnyDVD (updated) running in the background, however, I just can't backup this movie.

Any new suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Check your DVD reader or your disc.
This movie was an easy one.

this worked just fine for me with DVDfabDecrypter, DVD Shrink, and ImgBurn.

No problems doing this one with DVD Shrink with AnyDVD running in background (movie only).

Thank you for all the good advice, however, nothing works. I backed-up other movies since my first writing everything went fine I checked
my programs with other movies and they all work fine. The Departed for some reason just won't play or allow me to back it up and I just don't know what else to do. I even considered buying a new DVD writer, but, by checking it out with other movies I know it works O.K.
Thanks all again I guess this one will have to go down in the books as one of those mysteries that will never be solved. Oh by the way the movie The Departed plays just fine on my TV DVD player.

May be wrong here, but I thought AnyDVD interfered with Ripit4Me. Try it without and see what happens.

You might also want to try burning only the main movie content. I had many problems burning the movie until I used this option. Hope this helps.

...media was (don't laugh) GQ 8.5 DVD+R DL. Upgrade to "f" firmware did not resolve. Compressed to 4.7G and worked. Could be media but... It appeared to be something with 2nd layer...time to move on too many coasters already (5). It appeared to be something with 2nd layer...time to move on, too many coasters already.
