Turning my NAS to a stand alone FTP server?

I recently bought a Simpleshare 250GB NAS. It works great. For $99 I got exactly what I expected. The print server works well, and I can access files anywhere on my network. I didn't realize that I couldn't use it as an FTP server. I t can of course be used as one while my PC is up and I have the program running, but is there a way to do keep the server up while my PC is off so people from the web can access files when I'm not around or don't have the program running on my PC. Maybe its not possible and thats an adequate answer too but I just don't know so any suggestions would be helpful.
