right now my TV is 1080i only.. so my cable box upscales to 1080i if it's 720p..

when i get my new sony 46xbr3 it's a 720p 1080p tv. But cable doesn't come in at 1080p right? So now my cable will be showing at 720p?

so what happens when i view a channel that broadcasts 1080i like inHD or HBO-HD .... does it downscale everything to 720p if it's 1080i?

how will the picture compare to the 1080i tv im running now? will the 720p look better or the same or worse?

thanks,

Rob.

I have the 46 inch 1080p XBR3 LCD. Since it's a fixed-pixel device it will display anything you throw at it at 1080p. The 1080i or 720p signal will be deinterlaced or scaled to 1080p. The XBR3 does a great job at handling HD signals and I think you'll be pleased with the result.

A word of advice would be to calibrate your HDTV once you get it from the store. Use Digital Video Essentials or Avia if you want to do it yourself. Or hire an ISF certified technician to get professional results. I think with all the money you're investing in the XBR3 it'll be worth it.

yea i was thinking of going with the 40" cause it's 500$ cheaper then the 46" and use that money for the calibration and some bluray movies.

but now after looking at everything in my room, i think i would be disappointed going anything smaller then the 46" for the xtra 300$ not sure if its that much noticeable after i fine tune it myself on the DVE disc... maybe it is? not sure.

even if it's a little improvement on some computerized read outs.. will i actually notice it? and is it worth the 300$?

I guess it probably is.

But good to hear the xbr3 is a good set.

i'll have HD-DVD and bluray (ps3) connected. can't wait!!
