i played it once and now the system doesn' respond to the remote

Make sure the batteries arent flat.
Open teh SD flap on teh console while it is on & push the orange button that says sync then open the battery cover on the Remote and push the Circle sync button there and see if that connects them up.

the ones it comes with are total shit ...

PS what is everyone doing for batteries , rechargable ? what type/kind

I am just using regular duracell's so far and haven't had a problem.

Duracell AA rechargeable batteries work great for my Wavebirds. I have been using regular Duracell on the Wii motes but if you want to easily go rechargeable, I'd try these out.
