Yes they look cheap and yes they seem to be CMC Mag discs. But if they work fine for you, good for you,but the question you should ask yourself is for how long will these discs be still usable?Sometimes cheap things can cost you more,in terms of money and also in terms of time(when you find out that your backups are starting to deteriorate and unplayable and have to backup all again in better media).
Quote:Better stick with top notch medias(like TY and Verbatim),they may cost you a bit more in terms of price but you get what you pay for,top quality!!!
It might not even cost as much to use better media. The cheapest media I use are the Taiyo Yuden DVD-R Valueline. Right now the site I normally buy from has them on special too, $22.99 for 100 pcs, $44.99 for 200 pcs :)
I believe I would get the Taiyo Yuden x8 from supermedia for 54$ first or if you really have to have the x16 speed then the Taiyo Yuden x16 are $77 a little more than Phillips, but then again most Phillips MID is CMC Mag, and everyone knows what that could mean. By the way the Phillips at supermediastore.com are a little less than what you are paying at tiger direct $54

msoloe- Yes What BBmayo Said ! Or if you still have'nt gotten the media yet check the latest sales posted here at afterdawn.com & get some really Excellent media Like Verbatims Or Sony ( MIJ Made in Japan -if Possible = Taiyo Yuden Or Japanese sony ) either will be better than CMC MAG !!!!!!! Or you could just order online ?
maybe that quote "...are crap" could be reworded. I don't (willingly) let them near my drives either but there's better ways to word it... or i'll set JoeRyan on you :P
In the USA you can get great deals at BJ'S Fuji 100 pack for $30 and when in sale packs of 50m for $10.
Also at Best Buy, CompUSA and Circuit City when in sale.
Stay away from store brands from CompUSA and Circuit City.
Benri- Good point ! you can get really decent media rather inexpensively at various Stores & or online retailers ! at prices from .25 to .50 cents usually towards the lower end of that price spread ! Granted Specialty media ( Lightscribe, DVD+R DL , Or Double Sided Single layer disc ) will always be more expensive than Regular Branded or Bulk media !But many members only use those for special projects so their higher cost isn't as much of an issue ! If one is patient you can even get Ritek or Ricohjpn Made Media( officedepot Branded) @ .20 ea. Plus tax @ Officedepot ( On sale !!!!) in either format Usually in 16x Speed though might find some 8x here and there ? And no they are'nt quite as good as Taiyo yuden or Verbatims but they are worlds above CMag Crap ! But in the end you pays your money & make your choices ! it's your ballgame ! Strike Three...........! Ciao!
I can't tell you exactly which Verbatims are being sold at Office max but i'm pretty sure on the package it will be written "Made in Taiwan",media id coded as MCC.But you don't need to worry about them, they are the only best media you can get from Taiwan.
