hi, can anyone tell me how to switch the HDD on my computer what i want to do is get the old one and copy everything to the new one and then wipe the old one of everything and then use the new one as the primary then the old one as the slave...anyone help me or give me a good tutorial on how to do it..
invest in a program call Paragon Hard disk manager,I just used it a few weeks ago when I upgraged to a 500 gig hd from my older 250 gig hd ,it has a function call copy disc that will make an exact copy of your current drive then after the copy is made just disconnect the old drive and the new big drive will become the boot drive without the hassle of having to re-install the operating system or any programs one by one . worked awesome! pretty easy to use too!
There's any number of programs to use the most well known would be norton ghost since that's where it all started followed by acronis ,that paragon tool looks good since it includes the partitioning tools tho how it stacks up against partition magic is anybodys guess,below is a link to radified they specialise in disk imaging and can help with any advice you need
my imaging tools i use are ghost 2003 which is incorporated into system works 2004 prof, with partition magic v8.0 that i use to resize,copy etc
I would advise after imaging the small hdd keep the data on it as you'll have a working OS ready to go if the larger one gets problems,you can setup the boot.ini file to dual boot if you wish,a better way to go is to reformat the small one but don't install any junk on it ,keeping it streamlined and quick,then image it to the larger,once that's done install the apps to the small hdd and use it for general purpose and dual boot the larger for quicker operating with minmal apps installed,it works a treat
To make a master and slave config look for the picture on the hdd casing
