Hi Everyone,

I have this wizare problem at my hand. I have recorded MP3 songs using Total Recorder. The details are as follows;

24000 Hz, 16 bits Stereo
Mpeg Layer3, 56 Kbps

I have used nero buerner to burn the Mp3 files as datafile in one session. When I play on any of the combo Hi Fi players from Sharp/Sony etc., it goes through the list but escapes the songs after a few seconds.

However, when I record the songs in wave format at 44 KHz and convert it to Mpeg layer3 at 44 kHz, 128 kbps, these machines paly these files happily. I have looked into some Mp3 files which these play happily consists of mp3 files at 32 Kbps as well as a mix of others.

Could some one come up with some suggestion as to why this is happening. I would rather burn the CD at the bit rate Total record records tha recording the songs as wave and change it mp3. This will help me eleiminate time consuming process of converting from wave to Mp3.

Thanks to all in advance.

mp3 = MPEG1 Layer 3 or
mp3 = MPEG2 Layer 3

From lame documentation:
Quote:
* -b n bitrate

For MPEG1 (sampling frequencies of 32, 44.1 and 48 kHz)
n = 32,40,48,56,64,80,96,112,128,160,192,224,256,320

For MPEG2 (sampling frequencies of 16, 22.05 and 24 kHz)
n = 8,16,24,32,40,48,56,64,80,96,112,128,144,160

Default is 128 kbs for MPEG1 and 80 kbs for MPEG2.
This is not specific for lame but for mp3 as a format.

Many hardware players don't support MPEG2, only MPEG1.

So you need 32kHz sampling frequency or higher.
I don't know how configurable your version of Total Recorder is, mine (4.1b standard) isn't very well.
Therefore I'd recommend recording to .wav (44 or 48kHz if you have a choice) and encode in a second step using fhg or lame (commandline or frontend). A recommendable lame commandline for 56kbps would be
--alt-preset 56 -a --resample 32
(-a for downmix to mono, shoud give better quality at that bitrate)._
