First thing you learn about linux..
Look for yourself. I suggest searching the suse forums http://www.suseforums.net/ for details on your graphics hardware and see if it can even be run, then look for the suse supported or *nix drivers (if they exist)

Your link just takes me to the dell drivers download main page.. not much use.

And not to mention, since most of us are smart enough to NOT buy anything Dell makes, we won't know what to type into the machine code space, on that stupid page, so we CAN'T look there.
Bottom line, either look for those drivers where you where told to look, or remain stuck.

Not only are you OBVIOUSLY AN IDIOT for not looking at what that page asks for *being a service tag, which you DID NOT PROVIDE, and WE CAN'T GUESS ONE*, you also seem to forget that there are very few people in these forums that know how to work Linux AND actively post and help out...
So, me, stupid ?
Funny, i'm not the f**ktard who didn't even bother to realise that without a service tag, you can't access that page...

Not to mention most people here have a disdain for lazy folks who won't even take advice that would get them their answers with a little effort.
And i feel i can safely speak for most people that post here, as there are about 4 knwoledgeable folks here, me, janrocks, creaky and whompus.
Last time i checked, creaky wasn't exactly active, janrocks usually agrees that lazy folks and dummies shouldn't use linux, and i haven't seen whompus around the last few days.

DO THE MATH

Sorry.. I can't find anything about linux drivers for that machine..or any good hardware details.. Vista users are having big troubles with the sound hardware.

It looks like it can have one of many graphics cards fitted. That's the info you will need, otherwise you will get a similar response to "are we psychic" on 99% of linux forums.

I use a lot of dell hardware and the graphics drivers never need any attention with debian.

Suse refuses to install because if a graphics type error on 2 of my 5 dell machines, that goes for my alphas too due to running matrox graphics chipsets.
Suse isn't my distro of choice on dell because of driver issues..
The only way I can think of finding out what driver you need is to try some of the live linux disks and see what they detect. Generally windows graphics drivers are no use on *nix, but I do know there are people working on graphics issues all the time.

Another thought.. Is this suse 10 10.1 or 10.2? Freesuse 10.2 is remastered to get around some very bad bugs.

@nghtpnshr - i'm confuzzled, you're on about Suse here, but in other threads you're on about Debian; which are you using now or have you more than one machine on the go

Thanks for that info.. I found the driver you may need.. If you do need to install it after the OS then there will be info on the forum for the distro you decide on.. Just for setup the vesa or xorg vga drivers will work.

Here it is.. generic linux intel driver.. http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-...D=8203&lang=eng

1. Do the normal thing for a tar.gz file.
2. Do the next thing
3 (etc)

Task #1: Find this out! (Hint: you'll need to know what an .sh file is, and what you need to do with it. This is like a Windows user knowing how to find the start button, and how to click it.)

Linux users have a saying: "Real men use Bash" (That's another hint, as well)

[edit]
OK I will type it out in full

1. Download the tar.gz file to a folder
2. extract to that folder using Gzip
3. run the install script using sh

If you do not understand how to do those things, Google for "extract from tar.gz file" and "running Bash scripts".

Find out the Linux way. On the page I'm linking to you'll see what I mean!

I've done it for you as a gesture of help to start you off.

http://www.google.co.uk/search?num=100&h...+internet&meta=

nghtpnshr, Linux is NOT Windows! It is totally different, most notably in philosophy. Windows does everything for you, and hides the workings by wrapping it up in secrecy. Linux allows you to do anything you want, and gives you the tools to do it, but you have to know how to do it. It gives you the knowledge too. But you have to want it. Everything is open, nothing is hidden, and the information is out there.

Windows asks "Where do you want to go today?", Linux waits for you to say, "THIS is where I want to go today."

The way you are NOT going to get far with Linux is if you go asking on forums about how to do every tiny little thing. It is not an OS for those who cannot be @ssed to find anything out. It is OS for those who really want to find things out for themselves.

If you aren't one of those people, stick with Windows, is my advice.

Btw, Suse netinstall is f***ing retarted. All mirror names must be exactly as they are on, for example on your browsers URL-bar. All mirrors are really busy usually, took me 5-6 tries to find working one. When you start netinstall, it will even download the freaking installer from internet, it's like 76 MB. If you f**k up in some way of the install, you need to get that fancy graphical installer yet again. For me it was (thank god) no problem with 8/1 Mbps net. But if you are downloading it with 256/256 then you really wan't to get it right on first time. When you possibly get it to work, then you can start fighting all kinds of weird problems.

Or you can just download Debian.

EDIT: Never go to those brand websites, drivers are old and they doesn't have anything fancy in them. Allways download from manufacturers site.

Huh? That's a problem?

Boo-hoo! Linux is case-sensitive! Mommy kissums better. It's good training for you!

It's problem when you have to type some inhuman paths without TAB.

I know that linux is case sensitive, I'm not retard. ;)

Already am. Besides, I have better things to do than write a freaking URL to installation program. Why not to include list of mirrors straight to installer, and add manual mirror option.

Obviously somebody who has never even seen linux. ALL distros have a select mirror step in the installer.. Unlike shitty windows you HAVE A CHOICE what you install, and where from..

Time to run back to the windows forums where your total ignorance of linux procedures and computer operation won't be noticed.
Not sensible trying to try telling *nix full timers how things (in your blinkered and wrong) opinion should be done.. We have teeth in here so just take your stupidity and ignorance back where it belongs.. windows.. and leave us free non-sheeple alone.

Creaky.. thread finished.
