That's the BASH prompt. Type ls and hit enter. Do you see a list of files? Then everything is OK. Linux is now free for you to explore, Congratulations!

nghtpnshr, Linux is NOT Windows! It is totally different, most notably in philosophy. Windows does everything for you, and hides the workings by wrapping it up in secrecy. Linux allows you to anything you want, but you have to know how to do it. Everything is open, nothing is hidden, and the information is out there.

Thw way you are NOT going to get far with Linux is if you go posting on forums about how to do every tiny little thing. It is not an OS for those who cannot be @ssed to find anything out. It is OS for those who really want to find things out for themselves.

If you aren't one of those people, stick with Windows, is my advice.

On m'a dit que je suis nul ŕ l'oral, que je n'peux pas mieux faire !

@nghtpnshr - enough's enough now with all these threads. Part of your problem seems to be that you're trying to do numerous things at the same time, none of which you know anything about. What concerns me the most is the one thread where you're having issues understanding the difference between IDE and SCSI disks, methinks you need to stop starting threads, stop trying to do all these things at the same time, start at the bottom with the easiest things, and start some major googling. You really need to learn PC basics (which is dead easy) before attacking all these Linux problems/swapping distro every 2minutes, as with Linux you're just gonna get even more lost as it's nothing like Windows in most respects.
