From what I have read the best alternate solder points for the wiikey are on the chip after following the leads. My question is when I touch the pins on the chip with the soldering iron are they made of solder and will they deform before I can add wire, or am I safe to take my time and not worry about screwing up what is already there.

On the actual Wii DVD Drive board there are 6 connectors made of solder, and yes it is better to take your time but don't leave your solder iron on for more than 1-2 seconds and you can easily melt the plastic on the board and get down to the little lines of copper (traces), if you do this you will have to follow the traces back to a little square chip and solder on there, which is extremely difficult because they are extremely tiny and easy to bridge. If you place the solder right you never even touch the board with your iron. Make sure you haven't bridged anything or you will short circuit your Wii DVD drive and render it useless.

I have a question on soldering to that small of a point. I soldered the xbox D0 point no problem. But I am worried about how close the legs are. Can I lift the legs and solder to them?(or do the do they connect to components on the other side of the board?) if not how do you reccomend to go about soldering to the legs. Also My bro fcked the solder job up not me... I am pretty good at soldering this is just a scary soldering job... and please dont tell me to get a pro to do it.

I just got the wii and the wiikey. I have a new type board. The one that does not support direct solder. I am looking for information on how to hook it up using wires. I just need to know what the points are

thanks.

The Wiikey site only has version 1 of the diagram up. At least when I go to the site thats the only manual. Maybe they forgot to add it after their hard drive crash.

@Rampie

The only difference is soldering point 3 is gone so you will need to solder it to the IC leg. The link below has the updated wiring diagram...

@blu22

Calling people idiots will not get you your answer.

But I will be nice and answer you anyway. If your unsure how to do it get a Pro to do it.

So you are mad, and calling people idiots for posting random questions after you did... yet you are not the original poster of this thread? So basically, you are mad and calling people idiots, for what you yourself did?

ok sorry for getting upset.. I think its just funny that people read like 2 words of a post than make a reply... please read my thread hijacking question and help me out. I am just wondering if there are any tips anyone can give me or any thing special they did to make it easier. and I also asked if I could lift a leg without messing up the wii because that would make it a million times easier.

No, i dont suspect you could lift teh legs, because they are already soldered into the board, or whatever. If you did lift the leg, that would detach it from the board, and your wii wouldnt work at all, i suspect.

Truthfully, if you are that worried about it, and the wii still works to play originals, sell it on ebay, then buy another wii, and try again, only this time do it yourself, since you say you are a much better solderer.

You could lift a leg but that would be a pain to solder because you need to be steady when soldering. If your leg is lifted you would be off balance.

Dude all you have to do is solder it on the correct IC leg.

That statement is why I said to get a pro to do it. So either grow some balls stop being scared and do it or send it in for a pro to do it. Which sending it into a pro is what I recommend you to do.

If you do it yourself and screw it up don't come back crying and asking how you can fix my Wii because now it will not boot up at all.

yo... got it done but bad news and good news. first off the good news... I got all the points soldered correctly to the legs.. just so happens that he fucked up 3 and not 2 like he said but thats ok got them all done... I dont know why I was such a pussy took like 15 mins to solder them all and test them. Now the bad news My little bro stepped on the chip while it was outside the wii. first do you think I can get a replacement from modchipstore.com?? only a resistor fell off(C2 i think) I dont know how guess somehow the carpet saved it from being completley crushed If not can where can I purchase the C2 resistor. And also because I have my wii prewired is it safe to turn it on? and if it turns on and plays origionals does it mean that it is prewired correctly?

correction... By prewired correctly I mean... no bridges... I inspected over and over again using gods light to aid me and it seems as though there are none... So if it plays origionals prewired correctly as in no bridges?

Hey it should work, if it plays originals then it worked out ok, though the modchip itself may not work, but you never know until you try, maybe a little solder will fix the problem...lol
