Well to me, graphics is everything. Try playing a game that has extremely low polygon modeling, you'll probably get bored of it. Then compare it to another game that is high polygon modeling, it'll be much more fun

Yeah, cause final fantasy vii is SOOOOO boring just because of it's bad graphics..</sarcasm>
Graphics freaks are the typical people who think the number of bullets fired in a movie determines the quality

Uhh, WHAT?

IMO, the only thing that truely matters is gameplay. For instance, you will probably find me playing Quake or Half-Life more than DOOM 3 or Battlefield 2.

if anyone here has ever played interstate 76/82 for the PC, and then played vigilante 8 or twisted metal for the psx... comeon. nothing beats tooling around the desert in a corvette with twin rocket launchers and a 50mm machine gun mounted on your roof.... graphics be darned... #1 rule to a best-selling video game is playability re-playability and milking that re-playability.

of course this kinda makes most consoles obsolete off the bat because it gets harder to mod console games as time goes on... but at the same time, people will buy special editions and director's cuts just to get that extra feature... say... a mini-cooper that you can shoot out of your grenade-launcher and then a whole bunch of pygmy clowns jump out and draw a really really really awesome picture that brings your console to a stuttering halt...

and ill take blades of steel over anything NHL you can muster up now.

but PSX games, graphically challenged though they may be, and of which i own over 740 titles, and converted some rare PAL ones to NTSC just so i could play them, for the most part are a hell of a lot more fun than a majority of the candied-apple visual appeal hollow bottomless pit of storyline nonexistance that we call modern video games. (just look waht they did to the latest FF games... voice overs? are you serious? what happened to character development? [looks around] wheres my copy of FFVI?) there are quite a few ps2 games that are a rare treat as well. but psx by far surpasses in both quantity and quality of gameplay, anything else ever. except the atari. or zork...

one of the things i noticed with ps2 games is that compared to ps1 games, the ps2 games are unbelievably short. Take metal gear solid for example. I would have to play mgs2 then mgs3 then mgs2 again to get the same length and I'm talking movie scenes and all.

I guess the challenge of length is outta the question for games.
what do you guys think?

you're right. with the exception of the odd, "never ending story" titles like star ocean: till the end of time, or... whats that one with upgradeable tanks that never really has an ending... well whatever.
most of these do tend to end pretty early...
i mean, look at how short MK: armageddon's konquest mode is... ive easily sat through that in about 45 minutes.
with a whole DVD, they could have done something massive...

i chalk it up to the game develper's ambition to get a new title for their latest hot series out the door as rapidly as possible. IMHO thats where the character development and storyline goes. Look back at some NES, SNES, and psx rpg titles and... well damn... take FF7, i dont think ive ever actually played through to the end of that. FFVI was even longer, and it wasnt even in true 3d. SPRITES! i say lose the shiny water, the spectral lighting, and give me something to play!
