Does that mean it is just a matter of time before something similar happens to us NTSC wii owners? and apply your knowledge with this:
If something like this could happen to us NTSC'ers, could wiikey developers make a simple update for the wiikey to make these games work?

sum1 already had stevedawg and stevedawg85 is longer than 10 chars :(

Well, first off I'd like to say that this is not a deliberate attempt to brick modified wii consoles. This is just an added benifit for Nintendo. The disc contains the region coded update. Since it's a NTSC game, it tries to install this on PAL formated systems. That will brick it. This was only because people did not apply the latest PAL firmware according to reports. Keeping your wii updated *should* prevent this from happening.

I supose that if you don't update your Wii console and try running a PAL game on a NTSC-U system could result in bricking the wii. It is a risky time for mod chip users/importers. Expensive hardware can quickly become expensive doorstops. Keep yourself informed and you can steer clear of this danger.

There are risks involved in doing things that Nintendo didn't plan on having happen. Did they do this diliberatly? Maybe so. I doubt it though. It was simply put on the game to get people to instal the latest firmware updates. Some people don't have wifi/internet and own a wii. They need the updates too.

This is only happens if people don't have an updated Wii before you play the game make sure that you have applied all the system updates and then you can play the game you should make sure you do this before you play most games anyway.

Edit read this warrning from a torrent site.

WARNING!

Just to let people know who download this and own a PAL Wii, you have to make sure you have an Internet connection, and have ALL! The latest updates installed.

Otherwise this game will try to update using the NTSC update that?s installed on the DVD, this is the incorrect version for your Wii and will brick it, and you will get stuck into an infinite loop.

So before you play this game configure your wifi then do a system update and keep updating until there are none left to install, then you can run this game fine.

Don't fear updates if you have a mod chip so far so good.

For all its worth I think it?s worth waiting to get the PAL version as this is the safest option available to you.
