I don't know if this is really a question that belongs on the afterdawn forums but there seems to be little activity on the DMS forums so i thought I'd ask here.
My ps2 recently broke so I bought another one and took my dms4 out of the old one and installed it into the new one (a v13)

I plug it into the power and the standby light goes red, but when I press the standy button the light goes green for about half a second until it goes red again and the ps2 lets out a quite click noise.

I've checked all the soldered points with a multimeter and tried to make sure there were no shorts and it all seems fine, but the ps2 still switches itself off whenever i switch it on.

Any help would be appreciated.

When i have that problem, it was a fuse somewhere on the mobo

Thanks, so does anyone know where I can find a diagram with locations of the fuses for v13, all I can find is diagrams of the fat ps2s

I just found a diagram and tested all my fuses and they were all fine.
I did notice though a few "resettable fuses" which I'm guessing would be the clicking sound when it goes back to standby, so I guess something is shorting out even though I've checked for shorting around my solder points with a multimeter

Well, modchips are hard to install in PS2. The less times the wires overlap the better, the shorter they are the better, try not to have the wire go through the actel chip. also what wire size are u using? Try removing the chip to see if the problem is still there.

I removed all the wires so the modchip is no longer installed but the ps2 is still switching itself off.
I've checked all the solder points for shorts and all the fuses are fine but it still doesn't work so I'm basically left with a dead ps2.
Does anyone know what could be causing it to switch off so soon after switching it on.

Mine started doing the exact same thing, except it's un-modded. My unit is normally plugged in all of the time. I had unhooked it and packed it away in its box when I moved and just unpacked it, set it up, played about 15 minutes of Mercinaries then it crashed and shut off. It refuses to turn itself on.
Red light is active. Pressing power turns it green for about half a second, then back to red with a slight "click" noise coming from the back of the unit. (Any disc, no disc, same)
It is a new power adapter, my original one was replaced in the recall. I was using the original adapter just fine (it got a bit hot) until I moved about a year ago, then I had packed everything up, but when I went to use it again afterwards the AC Adapter just hissed and I didn't even get a red light. I'd really like to try a new adapter but I don't know anyone that has a slimline PS2.
I tested the fuses I could find and did a visual inspection of the board and didn't find anything at fault. I tried getting info from Sony but they just expect me to send it to them with $110 to get it fixed/replaced. (Yeah right) Seriously it's almost as if they put in a death-date into it. It wasn't that heavily used, kept clean and cool, only periods of non-use immediately before problems.

I've seen a few posts about green-light-red-light auto-shut-off but nothing that seems to explain it, still searching.

the problem is most likely something being ground to the metal shield on the motherboard. i modded a friends ps2 v.12 and got the same problem. the i foung out that there was too much pressure on the motherboard from reinstallation and the "A" contact for power to the chip was hitting one of the metal prongs over the chip. i bent the prong out of the way and put a small peice of electrical tape over it. the ps2 now works fine with no problems for over 2 months. my opinion about that reboot problem is something is grounding that shouldn't.
