1) Can i allow the wii to connect to the net - with having the wiikey installed i was wary of doing this.
2) Is it a given that i HAVE to allow it to connect to net to get updates?
3) how do u check what firmware is running at the moment?
4) if this is then updated, is it ok to run the paper mario game?
thank you for your replies
(i did ask this in another thread but i think it has been overlooked so will try here - apologies if counted as cross posting)
1) Yes, you can connect to the Internet without any problems after installing the WiiKey.
2) It's best if you connect to the Internet for updates. A few games have updates built into them but I would advise against using the games since a game such as Paper Mario could "brick" your Wii.
3) I dunno myself... maybe someone else will pop in with that one.
4) I have a NTSC Wii but I have heard that as long as you make absolutely sure that you have the latest Wii firmware update then you shouldn't run into any problems. If I were you though I'd just wait for the PAL version to be released. If you don't want to wait, do some research on the problem that occurs before you run the game so you don't ruin your Wii.
yea the firmware trick nintendo tried to pull was to disable mod chips but there is a work around all the time and i would install the latest firmware first or the game will just auto update your console and you will be in trouble
i am just praying that mario party doesn't do this.
It wasnt a trick that nintendo tried to pull, its simple. NTSC and PAL are different formats. PAL Wiis shouldnt typically be able to read wii discs, therefore, there shoudl technically be no problem. However, what happened is this.. the NTSC paper mario game would be inserted into a wii, it would detect that the wii wasnt updated and it would automatically try to update the wii with the newer patch. Once again remember that PAL wiis shouldnt be reading NTSC games, therefore there should not have been a problem.... (no need to technically detect what system it was put it to make sure it was the correct patch as it shouldnt have been readable in the wrong type of system) and it would update a PAL wii, with an NTSC patch, thus brick.
Thinone, Drats is right. Just update your console online before playing Paper mario and you'll be just fine. Word to the wise, take anything that TabletPC says with a grain of salt. He's known for spouting out nonsense on these forums
TabletPC, please don't start this garbage again. I'm begging you, for the love of all things holy, don't start posting false information and leading people astray!
think i am gonna update my wii and still wait for PAL release hehe
thank you
**Update**
i allowed my wii to connect to internet and it downloaded a large update file and now allows me to do parental control and stuff.
it now says my wii's FIRMWARE is 2.2E and it tells u this on the 1st page of the wii options at the top
If anyone gets any later updates it may be worth creating a sticky so people know when to get an update prior to trying new non PAL games??
what do u think??
one thing i have noticed is that now since the update - in STANDBY it is now amber and NOT red as it used to be -- found out why this is.. in the settings u can change standby connection on/off whatever that means??? if its on its amber if its off its red???
