copy all your save and channel files to your sd card

turn off the wii

take sd card out

go to wii options, and in the last screen there is a format wii option, format your wii and when you turn on it all should work, than you just put your saves back on the wii

xecuter 3 xbox 1.6 (dead psu)
softmodded xbox 1.0 w/pearl paint
cyclowiz in my wii
xbox 360 with latest hitachi xtreme firmware

Also, don't forget to copy your mii's to your remote. You can't back them up to your SD card for some stupid reason. The option to do that is in the mii channel, I think you can store 10 mii's per wiimote. I had to format mine to fix it as well, but I can't remember the exact sequence. It's posted around here (or was it the official wiikey forums???).

You can avoid this easily in the future by turning off wiiconnect24 prior to removing the battery.

Nope, but it's still a pain in the arse. I'd look for the guide, there were some particular things you're supposed to do, I'm afraid I don't have time to find it right now.

Huh, yeah my channels don't work either. If I click on news channel screen goes black and the wii froze.
Other than that the wiikey works great with all games.
I might try reformatting my SD card but last night when it froze I didn't even have the SD card in there.

When you format your wii, we're talking about the internal memory, not the SD card. SD card is only for making backups of your gamesaves and such. Matter of fact, I still don't think you can copy mii's to a SD card, only to the wiimotes for backup. Formatting your SD card won't fix anything on your wii.

Aha thanks. So what will I lose? I can copy game backups to the SD card...what about backing up the miis onto the wiimotes? Then would I lose anything besides settings?

You'll have to redownload your VC games (but you don't have to buy them again). You'll lose your VC gamesaves as far as I can tell. Obviously you'll have to redo your settings on the wii. Copying the gamesaves from the SD card back to the wii is a pain, you can't do it until you've run the game at least once. Maybe they fixed this by now, but anygame i wanted my backup gamesave restored I had to load once on the wii before it would let me copy it back.

Also, you're description doesn't sounds like the normal wiiconnect24 issue which is fixed by formatting. Usually what it does is complain that the wiiconnect24 isn't turned on, you might have a different issue. Maybe dripped some solder on the wifi parts? Might be worth exploring some more before you format....

lol resetting my date fixed it for the most part.
The weather channel works now. The news channel doesn't but doesn't crash, it just says it couldn't download the news data. Whatever, that's fine. Last time the wii became totally unresponsive and I had to hard reboot it.
On a side note, it's a little unnerving that the remotes turn off and turn on again when you launch a channel.
Thanks for your help!

is this the same idea for the internet channel? you can redownload it for free? because now it costs like 500 wii points or something

I had an issue with the news channel not updating. The weather channel was fine but the news channel would never update. I then added the Everybody Votes channel and now the news channel updates. So try downloading the everybody votes channel then try updating the news.

As to the topic of the thread this is the reason why it is recommended to turn WiiConnect24 off before installing a Modchip. Go to the website that Spaz77 has refereed to and follow the steps.
