hi, can you use any dvd rw drive to back up wii games, do you need an LG drive to back up wii games thanx.

Currently, only a select few LG drives can make backups.

You can also make backups with the following equiptment:
- Nintendo Wii (with wiikey installed)
- Wiikey base ver. 1.2
- Gecko SD card reader for gamecube
- PC running windows with DVD burnner and SD card port

1) Insert wiikey base 1.2 and Gecko with sd card (the larger the better)
2) Run DVDdump
3) Switch game disc
4) follow instructions on backing up the disc to SD card and transferring it to your computer.

I have heard that this is faster then rawdump 2.0 as long as you have a large SD card.

And once you create the dump (iso file of the game), you can use any relatively new DVD burner with updated firmware to burn the game.

Hi,
Do you need a GameCube controller while running DVDdump? I don't have the Wiikey installed yet so don't know how all this works.

I don't want to get the LG drive b/c of the hassle of another DVD-rom drive in my computer.

Also, what are the other uses of the Gecko card? Any url to them?

The wiikey team made navigation possible via the reset button for those of you out there without a GC controller. I recomend using the GC controller because it makes mistakes in navigation go away (The reset button navigation works but I still mess up going that route).

the gecko card reader is basically just for reading sd cards.. i dont think that there is another use for it though.. just acts like a memory card for the gc

Yup. A few different manufacturers make 8GB SD cards. They'll run ya about $100. Check any online computer retailer or an amazon or buy.com
