Hi All, I have just installed my wiikey but I can't get it to work. All original games play ok but when I burn the Cd for the wiikey the wiii says it can't read the disk. :o( I have tried DVD+R disks with no joy. Next test is to check all connections with my new multimeter and try DVD-R disks instead.

Any ideas why it wouldn't be working?
Do I need to use Nero with specific settings to burn the DVD's?
Should I be burining above 4x?
Should the wiikey disk load from the menu or the boot up of the wii?

Thanks for any help?

From what I've heard, a lot of DVD+Rs don't seem to work so great with the Wii, but DVD-Rs do. What brand of DVD-Rs are you using? Because for a lot of people, the crapper brands don't work.

I would use either Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden DVD-Rs. I myself use Verbatims and burn at 2x. No problems so far. I think most people use 4x though. Some people even burn at max with no problems... I think it mostly just has to do with the quality of your media and if your burner/pc is any good.

And yes, I would also check and double check your connections and use a multimeter to check that you installed it correctly.

If after you have done all of that and it still doesn't work, try to take some screen shots and post them on here and maybe people can tell you if you did something wrong.

Good luck!

Right I have checked all my connections and sure enough one of the pads had come off. Arg. All repaired now and back together with all connections checking out ok :o)

Now back to the setup disk. I have now burned three disks. Two using verbatim +r and the next using tdk -r both with no luck. So before I burn another Coaster I intend to install Nero to burn the next CD.

I just keep getting the message that the wii can't read the disk. I have created the PAL cd (bootdisk.pal) Am I correct in trying to load this cd like you would do with a game? The term boot disk has me confused. I would have thought the wii would have booted directly from the disk, ignoring the wii os?

It sounds like the chip is still not installed properly.

After installing my WiiKey I had the same problem. It took me 4 times after I got it right. And now it practicaly reads everything.

Anyway I burn with ImgBurn at the the lowest speed setting and I use Sony DVD-R
Hope this helps a bit.

Good Luck

You were right. I noticed at 3am last night that I had soldered to one of the wrong points! ARG!! In my attempts to remove the connection I took two of the other pads off!!! So now i'm going to have to solder directly to the chip. Those connections are so small I'm going to ask a friend to do it for me as he's an electronic engineer. As you have probably guessed by now my soldering isn't up to much.

P.S. Having tried a wireless install I would always use wires from now on. Basically if you make a mistake your up sh&* creek! Lesson learned :o)
