I've been having an issue with a few GC backups. My wii w/ wiikey recognizes them but once you go to the gamecube game the screen goes black. I can here the games sounds, and sounds that happen when you hit buttons, but I never get anything but a black screen.
Anyone had this happen, or have any ideas?

certain gamecube games don't work do to security lockouts certain capcom titles use these and even animal crossing uses these this is why they have a animial crossing launcher for gc backups
I'm not sure what region SSBM is, but the SMS is definetly PAL. I am starting to wonder if these are both PAL and happen to be two games that the Wiikey can't regionpass.
Is this a common symptom if the region can't be passed?
Rename the .GCM's to ISO and make sure you check the size. It should read as 1,459,978,240. I have both games and they work fine with no issues. They are USA and I have a wii key modded Wii.
I've tryed both .gcm and .iso, same result either way. The SMS is PAL region, and Im not sure what SSBM is, im wondering if I just happen to have two PAL games that the wiikey cant region patch for my US??
