dual layer ripping problems with Image Burn

On a few occasions when I have tried copying onto a dual layer disc with Image burn, it says"source disc not formatted properly for dual layer" it offers to continue any way.

A couple of questions:

- if the source disc is a dual layer movie why do I get the error message?
- what happens if I continue anyway?

ImgBurn is not a ripper. It will only work on non-protected discs.
