For quite some time now I have been using ink jet printable DVDs and CDs without any failures...I always new my DVs coded out as MMC but to my horror I only just looked at a successful log and found out my Verb CDs are made by CMC mag
Quote: CDR code: 00 97 26 66; OSJ entry from: CMC Magnetics Corporation
Ouch, and I've always "bagged" CMC mag discs.....how could Verbatim stoop so low??
Maybe I will have to change my mind about their CDs...but how can I.
A score of 5!!!

People say that CMCs labelled as HP or Verbatim are OK, unlike the cheaper disks labelled as CMCs. Verbatim have been selling CMC CD-Rs for at least a year now.

I wouldn't worry about cds being CMC Mags. The cds, even Memorex, are ok. But, I'd still stay away from the CMC Mag dvds. You should know the problem they can be............... :o)

CMC not only makes Verbatim's CD-Rs, they also make Verbatim's DVD+R and DVD-R discs. The CD-Rs are identical; only the labels are different. The DVD media, however, have different stampers and often different dyes, depending on which line the other CMC discs are being produced. Verbatim uses Mitsubishi dyes; CMC media use Mitsubishi, TDK, and other dyes. Azo-cyanine dyes appear on the major brands for whom CMC supplies discs.

Exactly . . Not all CMC discs are created equal . . the CMC produced Verbatim DVDs are (IMHO) the finest media ever to come out of a country not named Japan . . my LiteOn burners prefer them to TY
Now my BenQs and Plextor . . well that's a different story
CMC made CDs are good, also . . personally, I like the MIJ FujiFilm and Maxell CDs more and the MIT Maxell CDs are just a tick behind

OK it seems that the Verbatim CD which is made by CMC is better than the DVD made by them, can anyone explain the score of 5 on my test...I see others with a score of 90+....these graphs mean nothing to me so if someone can enlighten me thanks.
As I said I have NEVER had one of these CDs fail as yet...and have always been happy using them and will continue to do so, just surprised to find who manufactures them, Cheers to all.

Gwendolin,
The low score of 5 is due to the C2 error spikes (yellow) that appear in the graph. C1 is the first level of error correction, and there will always be some C1 errors on any disc, even a pristine music CD played for the first time. C2 errors are those errors that could not be corrected by the first stage of error correction and had to go to the second stage. If the second stage cannot correct the errors, then the circuitry interpolates and guesses what should appear or, in the worst case, mutes (or clicks if it's sloppy) for a split second.
There are two things to note: the fourth graph found no flaws on the disc. This does not correlate with the C2 spikes in CD/DVD Speed because those spikes appear to be problems due to the disc--coating flaws, debris on the surface, or debris in the plating. That brings up the second note: you have a Pioneer drive. These drives are sturdy, reliable, capable of excellent recordings, and typically poor performers with Nero CD/DVD Speed for reasons I don't understand. Your first graph is a playback graph with irregular speed changes, but the fourth graph claims the disc is excellent. That fact that none of them has ever failed seems to corroborate the fourth graph. I suspect that if you tested the same disc with Nero CD/DVD Speed on a different drive you would get much better results. The graph results are inconsistent, and I believe that is due to the interaction of the software and Pioneer's drive.

The Verb cmc I've been using a couple of years now for the work van and the kids. Talk about mistreated and abused I've had no problems with them at all. My good stuffs on the better media but these don't scare me at all. When I pick up the printables for $8.00 a pack for 50. The Ridatas I was picking up for $3.99 a pack this winter and seem to be good also. Chris

MCC owns the stampers for the Verbatim DVDs. Mitsubishi may have pilot lines for test production, but the actual production of Verbatim DVDs is done at CMC, Singapore, New Delhi (MBI), and perhaps another factory. CMC/MCC can be confusing: CMC is the factory that makes most of the Verbatim DVDs using MCC stampers.
