Hi mrbear27
Nero Essentials would be a limited version of the full retail version.
You wouldn't have access to all the apps in Essential like you would in the retail version.
Not sure if you would need a plugin for Showtime with the essential version.
You will be able to burn dual layer with it - dual layer burning is pretty standard in most burning programs.
If you already have a paid version of Nero then the choice is yours on which one you want to use. Not specific just to the drive itself.
It has been brought to my attention that many programs will not work with DL disks including my older versions of Nero and my Roxio that I purchased not very long ago.
I have receintly purchased the standard Plug In for Nero Showtime on my older version of Nero.
It seems to be working now.
If it stops from working, I will try adding the Plug In I purchased.
Nero started supporting dual layer with a version in Nero 6 - not sure when Roxio did.
Nero 7 would be better for burning dual layer burning but my fav for dual layer is ImgBurn (free).
For dual layer burning make sure your drives firmware is up to date, burn at 4x and use Verbatim dual layer media.
Hi again Mr. Panda
To find the serial # opne Nero SmartStart look to the bottom right and you'll see an icon w/ a flame in it. Click on that icon - it's product center. In the license area you'll find the serial #.
You can also add and/or delete a serial # here too.
alos i want to know can you burn regular DVD-R with Nero essentials, because i can't get anything on a dics. is there a guide for Nero essentials for burning DVD-R.
@dnelson
Yes you can burn -R discs with Essentials. The format of the disc shouldn't make a diff as long as the burner supports it. Probably almost all burners in the past few years support both formats.
What are you trying to burn?
You can post the last Nero log and we can take a look. Just be sure to edit out the serial # - begins w/ 1A, 1C or 5C.
