Yes, if you find Sony +R media in the 25 or 50 packs that says "Made in Japan" on the label, then those should be Taiyo Yudens. The key word is "if" though. There is no guarantee you're going to find MIJs at Circuit City or anywhere else. You have to look around. Many people find them in 50-packs at Sears, others find them in 25-packs at Staples. It just depends.

ON the big lots thing ! I suppose it varies from store to store? But yes I have Found The Sony/ Taiyo Yudens there Once ! and I have seen JVC Branded Media There often But not lately ! Lately All I've seen are HP Branded DVD's ( Most Likely CMC Mag's PHOOEY !!!!!!!!!!!) and some MEMOREX DVD+R Probably CmC MAG too Double PHooey !!!!!!!!! . So it pays to look But don't expect miracles every trip ! Big lots is a Neat store You can get real Bargains no doubt ,but you have to have an Idea what the item cost at a regular store to know if you getting a real bargain ! , Paying retail or getting took !!! Also Big Lots does the Grey Market thing ( Products intended for foriegn markets that are redirected back here and sold to us ! With them it's mainly Foodstuff's Cake mixes with hebrew & arabic writing on the box ect... and also Videos ( VHS Tapes ( Phoeey again I know ) & some DVD's !!! That were intended for Mexico & or other Latin american countries ? These are older Titles but major movies Like batman ect... But in Espaniol!!!!! entirely So read that tape box or DVD cover carefully first ! okay? I buy some older titles that I don't have on Vhs & Dub them to DVD then give the tape to my handicapped Brother in law & everybodies happy !!!!!!!!!!! You can find lots of Kung Fu Movies there to ( Wu Tang Clan ) and some Anime ' as well various titles ! also Big lots sells lots of electronics & Tools that are Refurbed so read the boxes on those too ! It still a good place to shop if your careful though !

Maxell's seem to be the Shiznit ! for the up cominhg week !! I'm Just Guessing that they're 16x'ers & The DVd-R's are CMC mags ? & most Likely The DVD+R's are too? So Being I don't have Fry's or staples here My Media Choices are pretty much limited to CircuitCity ( Sony's 25Pax ) or Price matching on some Sony 25-pack DVD+R DL - $39.99 (MIT = RITEK D01, MIS = MKM 001)- I don't due Compusa ever !!! Old issues !!!! assuming I could Find some MIS = MKM 001 otherwise I'd be just as well with the OD DVD+R DL'S Riteks are Riteks as long as there the same Mid Codes Right ? I was really Planning more on getting some regular SL disc though! Oh1 well there's always online !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cheers & happy Burning ? & yes I know that Verbatim is the Stuff when it comes to DVD+R DL media ! which why I would'nt buy the Riteks if I wanted DL disc ?

16x -R Maxells are Riteks, and 16x +R Maxells are Ricohs or CMCs.

Negritude- Okay I've got a 50ct. Tub that my sister gave me for Xmas ! that I had'nt opened yet Cause I thought they'd me Cmags But May just Open them & Run 1 thru DVD Identifier To check ! I've had pretty good leck with Riteks in their 8X media I may've burned one or two 16x'ers too But I would'nt swear to it ! Most of my experience with the riteks Were actually Maxells that were OEM'ed by ritek & some Officedepot Media also OEM'ed By Ritek . The OfficeDepot Branded ones are usually Cheaper ( .20 cents or so each as Opposed to .25-.30 cents for Maxells ! ) I usually wait for ther Officedepot sales Or buy something else Verbatims , SONY's ect...! So that's what'll probably do here ? Nut I will Check out My Xmas Maxells though ^ thanks for the Information ! Ciao!

yesterday i noticed the sams club in lake charles had 50 packs of 8x verbatim for $10.88. I think sams is phasing the 8x out because they only had about 6 spindles left.

Yes, we already know this. 16x Sony -R media that was MIJ and had an octagonal spacer WAS TY for a LONG time. Also, 16x Sony -R media that was MIJ and had a round spacer was Sony's own MIJ media, which was also good. Most of that media is now gone, as Sony seems to have stopped packaging 16x MIJ media for the time being. It may come back in the future, but no one knows.

At the moment, the easiest way to get TYs is to find older Sony 8x MIJ +R media, which is always TY (the spacer doesn't matter with these).

Reports from people in other parts of the country have the price at $12.88 for the 8x Verbatims, so it depends on location.

ACTUALLY THE BEST WAY TO GET Taiyo Yuden media is to order it online from supermediastore.com meritline.com etc.

Yes, 16x +R Ricoh is generally thought to be decent media. The main brands you can find it under are Maxell, Office Depot, and Memorex. Be careful though, a lot of times you could end up getting CMC MAG M01 in +R instead, and that particular media code doesn't burn well.

Well, ACTUALLY, the best way to get Taiyo Yuden online is from RIMA, which sells only PREMIUM TYs, but that's not the point of this thread. Jasper44 originally created this weekly thread to inform people about weekly RETAIL media sales, and many of us still prefer to get our media that way if at all possible. We're all quite aware of what's available online, and when we have run out of retail options, or the search for good media becomes more of a hassle than it's worth, we all know where to go. Thank you very much.

NO, those are NOT real Verbs. Playo is just using an MCC media code for better compatibility with various burners.
