Creative Zen Xtra not charging??? External charger?

I have a Zen Xtra 30GB mp3 players, and I've used it from time to time and it's worked great... except, this time when I plug in the zen to charge, the little icon shows the "plug" like it's running off the wall power cord but the battery "charging" symbol doesn't show up. When I unplug it, it turns off and I can't turn it on. I've checked the battery and it's seated in there correctly. I've tried the little reset button as well, no luck. Does this mean it can't be charged??? Is the problem with my battery or the mp3 player? Is there an external device that can charge the battery while it's not in the mp3 players? Any advice would be great, thanks!
