currently i think the best modchip for the wii is the wiikey (if you wouldve made a search or checked other threads you would see a fairly recent thread that asked about the best modchip).. and yes it is possible to update through a dvd but how.. i dont know. It was already implemented i think through the Super Paper Mario game which had a NTSC update and which also led to many PAL consoles being bricked. Internet update would be fine even for a modded console. (i updated mine through the internet and it worked. I was able to download the inet channel and the Everybody votes channel even with a wi-ic modchip-which IMO sux-)

as said in about 20 threads asking lol, the wiikey is the current best.

and no, as of yet there is no option to download the firmware updates onto dvd and update that way. I just bought the usb wifi adapter from walmart for 32$, and I can SORT of play my ds games on my dialup connection, and can update my wii firmware from it too. Some games include updates on them though.

The Wiikey is supposedly completely stealth and unable to be detected by any means. In fact, it is so stealthy that even the wiikey setup disk cannot retrieve the settings from the chip, it can only save the settings to the chip.
