Hello all, I've just tried to put a svcd on to a dvd and got as far as finding out about the res not being compatible, so I read the glossary and it says about being able to change the mpeg2 headers to lie about the res. How would I do that or how do i re-encode the svcd to change the res?
Thanks for your time to read this message, Sorry if theres a guide for this already, I used the vcd - dvd guide to get as far as i have. Thanks again.

Hello

I am just doing this now from VCD or SVCD (not sure?) but i am useing "TMPGEnc" - what are you using? as this will get you an mpeg2 with sound init! then you use the mpeg in "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (another proggy with a similar name!) to create vobs/ifo's/bups then you use Nero on UDF/ISO to burn!

are you diing the same?

Thx...

Hi, Thanks again, I also had the fps wrong aswell. I still don't understand at which point i adjust the settings in TMPGEnc. I just do the de-multplex, and have got an .mv2 file and an mp2 file. But there's nothing i can do with the .mv2 to change it. Can you tell me at which point of the process i check the settings?
I appreciate your help.

hi

i used the wizard and i am now burning vobs! to dvd (wait and see?) but i didnt get 2 files as i chose setting on front panel as it opens to extract video and audio and i got 1 file of the MPEG2 variety! and then used it for both sound and video in TMPGEnc dvd auther!

you are nearly there! just have a play with setting! i made PAL settings for source and output even thought it was a SVCD! dont know why i just did it? but it works!

keep trying the settings thats what is stopping you also try setting then stop it running after 5 secs to see if you can get only mpeg2 format!

Thxz..

Hello again, I'm still confused, I'm starting with the original .mpg file on the SVCD disc in the mpeg2 directory. The only thing i can seem to do with it is go into the mpeg tools menu from the main menu in TMPGEnc and de-multiplex it. I've tried using the wizard but there's still nothing i can do with the .mpg file. I can't just use that in the dvd authoring program because the audio needs converting. I'm sorry if i'm missing something obvious, I feel like I am. Thanks for your time again.

Hello

Ok, i will try to clarify here! firstly i know nothing of VCD or SVCD! so as to the disc i picked up i cant tell you what it is? only i would like it on dvd format! so i looked on this disc and found about 5 or 6 folders and the main big one was this a AVSQ01.DAT file so i loaded this into TMPGEnc and chose settings of PAL mpeg2 dvd format which i think is 720X726 something like that? and PAL 16.9 as i was trying to get widescreen tv!

when i put this .DAT file in i got a MPEG2 file out and not Mv2 or any audio! it took 4 hours as i chose VBR double pass for the ultimate quailty and then put this mpeg2 into dvd TMPGEnc author and used it for video and audio source and then got vobs from this! and i burnt them to dvd-R the video is EXCELLANT! but! the sound sync is out now? so i have a dvd of a SVCD or VCD with a menu and 6 chapters (made in dvd author!) but this sound sync is an issue now?

So if anyone is reading this thread is there a way round the sound syncronisation problem please help us out here? do we need to load templates or another program?

Thank you hope i have tried to be a bit more clearer? as i am going at this in the dark myself!

Rotary!

Hey,
Maybe this is too little, too late,
But the following link has a selection of guides on the SVCD-to-DVD conversion process:

http://www.dvdrhelp.com/guides?tools=&madeby=&formatconversionselect=SVCD+to+DVD&osselect=&howtoselect=%3B&search=Search+or+List+Guides

FYI, you do not have to change the resolution of your SVCD file: DVD will accept SVCD video as is as long as you convert it from DAt to MPG format. I often use SVCD resolution when converting AVI to DVD as I don't want to enlarge the frame size too much (lowers quality).

Oh, and www.doom9.org also has a selection of guides on this conversion process.

Good luck....

hello all, thanks for your help, I've finally done it, I used a program called 'mainconcept mpeg encoder' and it converted the frame rate and res and everything else. I found out that if it is a .dat filed it is VCD format, if it's a .mpg file in the mpegav folder it is SVCD. I was using SVCD so i couldn't use TMPGEnc to convert it. I still can't play it on my dvd player or my old ps2, but i have a brand new ps2 which it works fine on. I'm gonna try some AVI files with AC3 sound now. Thanks again rotary.
