I have been using Nero 6 for a couple of years and have had no problems until lately. InCd will no longer "mount" the DVD-RAM or DVD-R/W disk it has been using for a while. No error messages, it just markes them as DVD-ROM and no free space. Windows reports the correct disk type in My Computer, but Nero InCd refuses to see the disk as a R/W. This is only for DVD's as the CD-R/W works fine. If I try to format a new disk, after I insert the new DVD-R/W, InCD reports the correct disk type and starts to format. After about 6 seconds, it reports format complete the says it is unable to write to disk because it is the wrong "type" of disk. A read of propertys shows it has been marked as a DVD-ROM with no free space. I have ruined 7 disk now trying different things (including unstalling Nero/InCd and re- installing the program) but nothing helps. I am using the same disk I have been using for 2 years. Has any one else had this experence? I e-mailed Nero 2 weeks ago with the Logs, but have had not response from them

Hi.

Post one of your log sections here.

Nero InCD is a problem in and of itself. It can bring the burning of any disk by any program to its knees.

What version of Nero are you using? 6.6.0.18 and 7.5.9.0, and maybe 7.8.5.0, seem to work best overall.

When you reinstalled InCD, did you just reinstall that module or did you reinstall the entire Nero package?

Did you run any of the Clean Tools before reinstalling?

If not, uninstall the entire Nero suite, run the Nero Clean Tool and the Driver Clean Tool, and then reinstall Nero from a fresh download.

http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/InCD_Clean_Tool.html

Are you using any Roxio software like Easy Media Creator or any other packet writers like Drag to Disk, DLA, etc.?

Have you change the RW disks you're using? Have you tried a different brand/manufacturer?

Yes to most of your questions. The big puzzle is that the drives,a Matshita LF-D311, and a LG GSA-4166B both work in all operations but formating DVD-R/W and reading all of my other previously formated -R/W disk. All are closed and marked ROM with no space left. I can format a new CD-R/W and it will mount the drive and read/write as advertised. If I try to format a new DVD, it marks the disk ROM and closes it thereby making it useless. I am using Nero Ultra 6 version 6.6.1.15. The DMA is turned on on both drives and windows reports they are working.
Here is the Nero log file:

6.6.1.4 is one of the worst versions of Nero. Try 6.6.0.18 available here:

Package 1: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Ner....0.18_no_yt.exe
Package 2: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

or

Package 1: http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe
Package 2: http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

Be sure to run all the Nero 6 Clean Tools after uninstalling the current version and before installing the new version above.

In the first log section, the media is IDed as -R and then later (see below) as DVD-ROM.

The above is a Roxio driver which can cause conflicts with Nero is some configurations. Use the Roxio Zapper to remove it and also run the Nero 6 Driver Clean Tool.

Edit out your name and Nero serial number at the beginning of each log section under the Burning ROM header.

You might want to reconsider burning at 16X. 8X will reduce te chances of getting a bad burn.

Do you use InCD a lot to copy things to RW disks? It really is a troublemaker for many people. Let's try this:

- Uninstall your current Nero.
- Run the Nero 6 Clean Tool, The InCD Clean Tool, and the Driver Clean Tool.
- Just install the two Nero 6.6.0.18 packages above. InCD is not included to the best of my knowledge.
- See if Nero Burning ROM will recognize and format your RW disks.
- also try a Verbatim RW disk. TDK is not a top quality disk maker any longer imo.

You could also try going back to an earlier restore point when you know things worked. There may just be some software/driver added causing a conflict that the Driver Clean Tool can't pick up.

Sorry about the late reply laddyboy, but I had to go out of town. I did everything you suggested and nothing has changed. I am beginning to think something has gone wrong with my Bios or something. After all the cleaning and re-installing, I put in a new DVD-R/W disk and Nero reported the correct type disk and I began to format it. This time it did the full format of about 45 minutes an I thought everything was good. After it completed formatting, I ejected the disk and the drive wrote again and "closed" the disk marking it as DVD-ROM. Another Coaster! Everything else is working as long as I don't want to erase and write to a DVD or CD R/W disk. I can format a CD-R/W and it works fine, but Nero will not reconize a formally formatted disk as a R/W. All disk will still read and display the data and the DVD-R write funcion works fine. I have unstalled each drive and disconnected each one at a time and re-installed and get the same results. I thought on of the drives was going bad. I am about all out of ideas. I just should not be this hard!!

If you've tried an earlier restore point and other RW media, the only other thing I can suggest is reformatting your system hard disk and reintalling the OS. I keep a ghosted copy of my OS on another hard drive to expedite the process and rehabilitate a couple times a year. It saves mucho time. Reformatting and reinstalling should solve the problem as long as it isn't a hardware problem and you don't reload any conflicting software.

Thanks for your help, but it is just not that important. I have moved for R/W disk to USB drives and external hard drives for my backup solutions. I have found that using these disk always causes problems sooner or later. The same software and disk work properly on my backup computer. It has got to be a driver that is in conflict with Nero or something in my board. I was hoping someone else had seen the problem and knew the solution, but its just one of those things that is specific to mu computer. I just wish Nero would publish a list of known conflicts so we would have a place to start.
Thanks again for your help
