First off since this is my first post, I will use it to say what's up, and thanks a lot to the members here for the info I have read and used from this site.

My two questions I can't find a whole lot of info on are...

1. Do you have to turn off Wiiconnect24 before attempting the install? I have seen this about 50% of the time and have decided to be safe and turn it off.

2. What is the deal with the internal battery. Does it need to be taken out, or is it taken out in the process. Again I have seen this in about 50% of the tutorials (In writing) but have yet to see a picture.
Forgive me if this is covered in one of the many Wii case disassembly tutorials, as I was planning on looking at those as I am ready to pull it apart.

Appreciate any advice.

The battery should be removed when taking apart case anyway mate, and isnt wiiconnect online? if so it will obviously not be connected when installing!

OK, thank you about the battery I was thinking it would be during the case removal. Just wanted to double check and not fry the chip.

As for the Wiiconnect I read you "MUST" turn it off before you turn off the console and take it apart. He said to prevent any connection errors ?!? However it was probably just some troll that talks out of his ass.

Well the chip will be at my house in an hour when I get off work so I guess it's go time.

My stats are as followed when it comes to modding

(Original)Xbox 20 for 20 - 100%
PS2 0-1 - 0%
Wii ?-? - ?

Dosen't look to bad but I still got the fear after my PS2 catastrophe!

I didnt bother playing around with the wiiconnect thingy when I installed my wiikey, just put it in. My advice would be to forget about the quick solder method (seems to be a recipe for disaster).

I found it better using very thin wire 30AWG is best (or it will just pop the little solder points off; its a real night mare then). Tape the chip to the drive board using electrical tape and just use the wire to solder the chip.

The quick solder is ok until it goes wrong.

quicksolder method is only a recipe for disaster if you don't know what you are doing. Quicksolder method is NOT new technology (thats the reason why the wiikey team used it) Mod chips for years made for xbox's and others have used quicksolder and it is tried and true proven to work if you know what your doing. If you don't know what your doing then you shouldn't be attempting to solder your own wii.

Thats a pretty messy soldering job.

Look, all you have to do is dab some tiny balls of solder onto the all the points on the wii pcb first.

Next add a little flux to the wiikey points and dab some little balls of solder onto those as well.

Finally position the wiikey on the wii pcb correctly and heat both the solder points on the wiikey and the solder points on the board and they will flow beautifully together with no need for messy wires.

It's very simple. Just use a tiny bit of solder on all the points and you'll be just fine

I believe the battery HAS to be removed, because under the battery tray cover thing, there is another screw you remove when disassembling the wii.
