What exactly is a crc check. Is that something that looks for cracks in firmware?

hmmm is it possible to temporarily disable this crc? Because that could be what's checking for something. Because sometimes when Spybot S&D doesn't dl something right, it says bad checksum... Sony could have programmed it to label anything that's unsigned as bad checksum. oh yeah and @svstang, it's okay thanks very much for apologizing, i really appreciate it.

ok on the note of a downgrader(just so you know i know nothing about coding and so on just an idea)
iv'e heard alot of people talking about a possible downgrader through the web broswer, but what i was thinking is something to do with the game sharing side of things, i recently saw a vid on youtube showing tekken dr being shared from a 1.5 to i think is a 2.6 via gamesharing

so does this mean that there could be a way to make homebrew that you can share from a 1.5 to a 2.XX???
or as i said a possibility for a downgrader???

no downgrade will be possible thru the web browser.
you can't gameshare HOMEBREW.
It's a Pipe dream.
@ eternalis: I think we should pick up work again on our 2.71 emu just to show ourselves we could do it... Maybe it could end up being more stable than Booster's. Not that his isn't stable... erm.. gotta go...

guano what about the crc idea? Disableing that could provide a way to run homebrew. Maybe that's exactly what the tiff exploit did? disabled the crc so a lower update could be launched? just an idea

ok, so i looked on wiki, and basically, a CRC check in lowman's term is something that checks for errors on a pack of data.

@hodgins: I heard them talking about a Cycle Redundancy Check, which checks for bad or corrupted data. Maybe what the tiff exploit did was temporarily disable this CRC. And you could possibly disable this with HTML coding, meaning afterwards you could run a 1.50 firmware update. And the downgrade is going a bit slower. I'm getting to work on it with anatomic, who is helping me make the actual body of the swf, and we still need to get some resources, aka a 1.50 and a 2.60 psp to make a 2.70 firmware dump, or else we won't know which files to replace. All in all, it's a little bit of progress.

I have a 1.50. The 2.70 dumps are the ones that are hard to come by because there's no way to actually dump it.

I think you can only emulate 2.71 so its hard to find a 2.7 dump becuase no one uses it.

yeah thats what im saying if 2.71 is basicly the same why not try and work on that i mean how could they have emulated it if they wernt able to dump it? i dont know maybe im geting to ahead of my self sorry ya'll just brain storming here i cant wait till they can downgrade 2.7 or i might just trick this kid i know to trade his 2.6 he knows nothing about psp still has a 32mb card lol

LMAO.......not really. The kid is probably 10, and since he has a 2.6, no real point in buying a 2 gig stick. Cant beleive this thread is still rolling on, but by all means, keep going. Much better thread then the ones explaining how to use WinRAR :)

I meant there is a way to decrypt the 2.70/2.71 ie. Dark_Alex's decrypter, but you can't run a dumping program to actually get the files from the bios. I don't think devhook actually uses the files from flash0 and flash1, but I might be wrong.

dev hook uses the flash files, and if im not mistaken there is an application that reveals the psp flash files when you plug it into the pc, ill find out the name off my friend and ill get back to you
