Exactly Jimmychoo, I hold that thought with both games and movies except I copy the movies on the computer with DVDDecrypter and then watch them across my network on the TV thru the Xbox from the computer.

I got a wierd one. For the past 2 years I've had no problems with my 2 modded xboxes hooked up to my router.(linksys BEFsr41) i have a Toshiba PCX2200 modem and am on cable.All my cables are labeled "patch".
I've been running Windows XP and have had no problem ftping up and down and could use my UPNP files on the PC via my xboxes. My PC died and I replaced it with an XP pro machine. I jacked it into my network and could explore and delete via ftp. i could also upload from my boxes at good speed. UPNP video playback was spotty,as it would stop to buffer. I firured it was an issue with XBMC and decided to update. On that box XBMC was the default dash and half way through the transfer my ftp client died, bricking my box until i can maybe fix it ith a rescue disc. On my remaining xbox, running unleashx, i can browse the hardrive, delete files and watch upnp, though it pauses to buffer. But my ftp speeds are dismal and often stop.
I have DHCP set up on the router and on my boxes, I've played with all options of duplex on my NIC (RealtekRTL8139/810x), updated the driver on the NIC. Checked my cables and plugs,reset the router, pinged my xbox and now i am going crazy.
I have no trouble cruising the internet on my PC and the RSS scrolls on my xbox and i can watch appletrailers, but they stop to buffer. I am at a loss. I thought to replace the NIC card but don't have a spare.
i am wondering if perhaps there is some wierd XP Pro option I'm just missing?
Any feedback is welcome.

Yeah, that is strange! I was running Pro for a few years without issue, maybe you have a bad copy!?
I've since moved to Vista, but XP Pro should be fine!
Leave it with me, I'm on my way to work, I'll consult with some colleagues!

Ok, had a bit of a think and chat with the boys. It will mostlikely come down to two things.
a) You have a bad cable in your bunch. Swap known working ones to troubleshoot!
b) You have a massive traffic load on your network. This could be caused by a few things. It may be caused by a 'dribbling' NIC. Sometimes when NICs fail, they just start sending out random packets or "Dribbling".
Without actually being there it's hard to help you troubleshoot, however you should try pinging and using 'trace route' to try and locate a segment in your network that is slow.

Chunkhead, I'm not a religous man, but you're doing the Lord's work here.
Yesterday, i installed a $30 dvd burner and while i had the case off, i re-sat my USB2 card, NIC card and checked every cable. I switched my router to non-dhcp and switched my xbox to non-dhcp.Then saved and reset them all.i traced my cable all the way to the wall and checked the connections.
Still the same problem, but now i couldn't ftp at any speed with out the connection dying. I went ahead and burned frosty's rescue disc using the cheapo Nero suite that came with my burner and it worked, i had FTP access to my bricked xbox, just no way to FTP to it easily. i took a six-pack break and went back to the cables and here is where if there was a smaller font availible,I'd be typing in it.
the power cords from router and modem were switched. Set them up as they should have been, and presto, FTP problems gone. So, this proves a little knowledge is dangerous and to always keep it simple,stupid. I got to admit, i was tempted to not post back, out of shame ,but given that you are building such a good thread and helping people, I figured that I should post my stupidity so that perhaps others would benefit and not have to go through the 2 weeks of hell i did.
so to end; my advise to everyone is grab Frosty's rescue disc, always have a soft mod save on your xbox and buy a $30 dvd burner, they don't do Light-Scribe or write quick, but you don't wanna burn ISO's fast. And keep it simple.

I'm having the same problems as rlcarreon, i have no issues connecting to the computer and sharing folders on XBMC and have the same setup two network cards a crossover to the xbox and a straight to network.

I'd say the problems both you guys are having is that the Internet is on a different network!
The PC will be smart enough to work with both as it will have two NICs, however the Xbox can only see the 192.168.0.1 connection (192.168.x.x network). It assumes because there is no network internet access, there is nothing to connect to!

For the record, 85% of networking problems occur at the Physical Layer (Cables, power, etc)

I am running XP Pro and a Linksys BEFSR41 Router also, I do not use Upnp though and I have no problems. it is not an XP problem unless its a setting within your network settings, read through this thread at many of my posts and chunks replies. I picked away at things as he offered solutions and eventually it all just fell into place and worked.
Yea, backward power cables will mess things up too.

I have to apologize guys, my heads just not been with it the last few days!
The solution to your problem is simple. You will either need to bridge your connection or simply allow the Internet connection to share with the other one!
Here's a brief run down

I am having a little trouble with my network and softmodded xbox. I have ftp'd into the box previously so I am confused. I have setup b with a linksys wrt54g router and the trouble is this....I have accessed the xbox and the internet from the xbox by using the dhcp settings on the xbox. Suddenly I cannot get the xbox to get an ip address. If I change to static I cannot access. I have no trouble looking at the dhcp ip address and editing to address in flashxp...but why won't the xbox get an ip now? I've tried rebooting and resetting the network.

Heya
I followed your guides, hooked my old modded xbox to my pc, started flashfxp and it all works and connects.
But now i want to move a .avi to my xbox-harddisk and i get :

The files is 800mb big so it should fit.
Did i miss a setting somewhere? I got a direct connection from pc to xbox, no router etc.

Seems strange. You'll just have to play with FlashFXP till it works! FTP can be odd sometimes! Can you transfer stuff back from the Xbox?
You know it's much easier to just stream the video file from your PC with XBMC...

Thats all I do anymore, I stopped burning onto disks just to watch them on my stand-alone DVD player. I just access my movies through the XBMC Video option then pick my shared folder on the PC and watch the movie from there. No problems at all and less wear & tear on my burner and wallet for discs and covers.

It worked only when my xbox menu is in XMBC, so thats fixed.

I can not connect to the ftp of both of my xbox now after I installed the XIR Easy Kit V2 Beta to make it able to start with a dvd remote.
The symptom is, the Xbox can connect to the internet fine, I can see it from the DHCP of my router, but my computer can not ping through the xbox, nor can it ftp through. However, whenver I use the SMB sharing function on the xbox (it didn't work either, but it will freeze for sometime, I assume it's trying to find the network), my computer can ping through to the xbox, and the ftp works, I was able to download and upload some files. However, whenver the freeze of SMB stops, the connection is gone.
I used it the day before I installed the XIR, but XIR shouldn't have caused this as it's clearly a software issue. The xbox can still access weather.com...
Can anyone help me or point me to a direction? Thank you.
