OK, I have a Lite-On Slimtype SOSW-833S DVDRW drive in a custom assembled laptop. It worked just fine for about the first 7-8 months until I tried to install and use Roxio 6 to burn a large amount of data on multiple DVDs. I don't know if Roxio was the cause, since I'd only ever attempted to use a blank DVD once before this, but this is when I first had an issue with it.

Now I get this weird error that appears about 50% of the time with any type of CD and DVDs with data on them, and all the time with any blank DVD. The drive icon in My Computer recognizes there is a disk in the drive, but it reads it as haveing 0 bytes free AND 0 bytes total.

When this happens with a CD, I can usually get it to work by ejecting the drive and putting the disk in a spin (the direction it spins normally) then closing the drive again. This isn't always needed, but it seems to improve the chance of the next read attempt to work.

It refuses to read DVDs, blank or otherwise.

I have attempted to update the drivers, but could not find them to save my life, and updating the firmware. The error still persists.

Does anyone have ANY idea what is the problem, and how to fix it? I'm at my wits end.
