Dual layer disks rated speed of 16x and 18x?Are you sure these are well dual layer ones or single layer discs because from what i know the dual layer discs have maximum rated speed of 8X till now.I think you may have mistaken single layer discs for dual layer ones.
About single layer discs which are rated 16/18X,these are becoming more and more popular and little by little they will end up replacing the 8x discs that most people used to use, same fate as for the 4x discs which have become almost scarce today when the 8x discs have fully made it's entry to the end users. But to be able to burn these discs successfully, you need to update your drive's firmware to the latest one as this will add more support for these new discs.Any burner which is rated with a maximum burning speed 16x to 18X will be able to handle these discs. And always use top notch medias like verbatim and Taiyo Yuden discs as these are more compatible on almost all burners.
Wow!That's new(for me at least). Can you just give the the link where you saw these medias as i would like to have a look on them myself please. And which particular plextor burner,i mean the model, you said you found can handle these 16X/18X DL discs?Because i have the 760A and i don't think so it can burn these discs at so high speed.
P.S:My plextor 760A too has the 18X speed burning capability but only for single layer discs. And what i've just noticed on the box is that it's written DVD+R double layer 10X,so i guess the maximun speed it can burn dual layer discs are only up to 10X
About my plextor,i really like it,i've always wanted the plextor and really i'm fully satisfied with it,it comes with its own utility called plextools professional which makes the drive the ultimate one.I do have an LG-4167B,a BenQ DW-1650 and the pioneer 111D which all work wonderfully. You don't need to worry about your Liteon purchase,Liteon burners are very good too.My plextor can burn dual layer disks at 10X as i said but i've never tried,i always burn at 2.4X.In fact i never push my burns at their extreme speed,i prefer burn at slower speed to be on the safer side.
But really about DL discs rated over 8X,i've never heard about them, may be as you said some brands are looking to release newer disks with higher burning speed, but for the moment i haven't seen or heard about any of them available on the market.
Hello Mr Panda,i use imgburn which is a freeware to burn my dual layer discs. This program handles burning these discs even single layer ones pretty well. You can even use the booktype option in it,after selecting your drive,to booktype your +R format discs to DVD-ROM to make them more compatible with your dvd player.
To burn my xbox 360 games which should be in dual layer media,i use clonecd,I can use clonecd to rip and to burn these DL discs. And i think it will work same as for movies too.
