Normally Wave files give much better sound quality as they are files directly taken from CDs,because there has been no compression, the files in a music cd is in wave format.Mp3 is just another format which compresses the original wave format to make it smaller in size,to make storage easier, which causes the sound quality to reduce at a percentage depending on how many bitrates you're converting the waves files into. The lesser the bitrate, the worst the quality will be and the greater it is,the better the sound quality will be and if you put it at a much higher level, the harder you'll find the difference between the original wave file and the mp3 file if you're not an expert in the sound quality system. Now you have another format which is called wma, which has been developed by microsoft as to compete against mp3 format, normally it is said that these files take even less space than mp3 files, but about the sound quality i can't really tell you about that if it's better or worst than mp3 because i use the mp3 format.

I don't know anything about digital mp3,i just know only mp3 and wave. But logically wave is supposed to be better than any mp3,even a high quality mp3 normally is supposed to be a bit inferior to the wave because there has been some sort of compression at any level, and we know compression does reduce some stuffs to make the file smaller, hence losing some of the original wave quality. But like i said if it's a high quality mp3,none of us,who's not expert in the field will notice the difference.I use mp3 files a lot simply because the cd player in my car supports so and i can fit much more songs on a cd than it would be if they were in wave files.

You mean a cd bought from store which is in mp3 format?I don't think so it will be in such format,it will most likely be in wave.If you have a cd containing mp3 files and want to convert it into a regular cd which is in wave, the quality won't get any better than the mp3 files themselves, they will at most be the same.Converting mp3 files to wave doesn't ameliorate the quality. It's only a standard wave format cd quality which is better than a mp3 converted one, that's all.
