Ok guys, I'm new to this site but I've been reading here for awhile. If any of you reading this are going to be mean go ahead and laugh now because I don't want to hear it but I messed up my wii trying to install the Wiikey. I made the mistake of trying to quick solder it and that didn't work too well obviously. I was able to get the chip off and still had the contacts in pretty good shape. Now however 3 contacts are gone and my wii wont read any disks. I'm really upset about my stupidity and I was wondering if there was any way to fix it. The chip is not in it if that makes any difference. I'm not sure why it doesn't work because I didn't mess with the firmware chip. I'm going to take it apart again and make sure that my cables are tight and everything. My other question is that, I know there are alternate soldering points that you can use on the firmware chip. If I was to send my wii off and get the chip installed, using the alternate points, would it still work? Thanks a lot for your time and please on one tell me something I already don't know like "Haha you fried your wii and your a retard for trying it."
Just out of curiosity does original games still work?
If it is just the backup games that are not booting then more then likely you need to install the Modchip on the alternate points. This is done by tracing the leads back to where they come from. Which is lead back to a chip on the board so you would need to solder to the legs of the chip.
Since you messed up the original points of the install I would suggest you send it out and see if someone else can install the chip correctly on alternate points.
Below is a reputable site that installs the chips...
No the originals don't work either, however I was looking around and there is a site called trustedmods.com and I read a post from a guy in their forums and it sounded like he did the same thing i did, only his was alot worse. I couldn't even get to his channels. So I shot them an email and I'm going to see what they can do. It may just be that I didn't get my ribbon cable plugged in well or something but I'm not taking it back apart to find out. So, I think I'll just send it to them and let them handle it because it seems like they can fix it. Does anyone know anything about that site? They seem pretty solid to me though.
Hey man we all mess up don't feel bad i did the same thing, my saughtering points were still there but it didn't play anything so i called Nintendo on warranty and did an ARP and had them ship it out they put a hold of $200 on your CC and if you don't mail the system back they charge you so i figured either way Im getting a new wii Either A) Ihave to purchase it, well thats fine you still can't find them anywahere or B) they dont even noiticce and I get off well Option B took place and got an E-mail from them clarifying they wern't going to charge me only bad thing is you will losse all VC games that you downloaded and game saves that you dont Back up to the SD Card but hell with the WiiKey why need to buy the VC? anyways when i got the 2nd one i did the smart thing i should have done before use "Wires" dont screw with that small ass board.
I figure I'll check out these sites first and use Nintendo as a last resort. I'm just curious about what they would do if they noticed that I tried to mod it. Another thought is, if they have the wiis to send people new ones, why aren't they in stores? I wonder if its all just a big marketing scheme.
