I got a movie in AVI and subtitles in SRT what do i need to do to merge them and them burn onto a dvd?

i get an error saying to make sure that my file/path has no strange symbols. I checked the file's name and it was called movie.avi

I find that this program is fussy about the path.I place the folder in the root directory (c:\)

i tried placin the game in the root of C: directory but when i choose the file after waiting a while it gives this error:
floating point divison by zero
i click ok and the program crashes, just the program not windows

The alternative is to hard code the subs to the AVI with VirtualDub.
It's not hard but takes some effort.

When i open the file i get the following error:
"Couldn't locate decompressor for format XviD (unknown)

Virtual Dub requires a Video For Windows(VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable"

I installed the codec and tried with AVI2DVD it worked but is it normal to take 4 hours?
And how to do i preview the movie, id like to change subtitle settings without burning a dvd every time i test them
