God of war help needed - Not able to kill Hydra

Hi all,

I am playing God of war-1 these days and am stuck at Boss fight with the three Hydras at sea.I am able to kill two small hydras but unable to kill the Big one.

I have tried to kill big one.I reach a stage where circle icon appears above his head.When i go and press circle, it grabs the hydra, and goes behind the pole.Then a bouncing circle appears.I keep on pressing the circle continuosly, and after some time , hydra releases itself and no harm done. I have done this for more than 50 times now, each time hitting Hydra more than 10 times.But i am not able to pass this stage.

Please help, my game DVD is getting useless for me.

You probably aren't pressing it fast enough. As for guides you can refer to, check out gamefaqs.com made by fellow players who have played the game and entirely free.
