I just picked up and LG dvd burner for less than $300. It burns in every format and also is a dvd ram. I used verbatim dvd r+ and ran dvd xcopy gold to back up the two towers. It split at chapter 13 but everything ran smooth. Burned at 2x.

Not a lot to say to that apart from it would seem that the price you paid for burner seems a little overpriced (unless your talking Canadian $)
Also I prefer to have LOTR - The Two Towers on 1 DVD-R , rahter than split over 2 discs. I did it with DVD2One myself but DVD Shrink does the job aswell (DVD Shrink being free)

: )

I don't like DVD X Copy gold, plat etc as they give you that stupid 321 piracy warning! Best off using either CloneDVD or DVD Shrink :D

'??ried dvd shrink, but i sure am gonna.
The price is in Canadian dollars which is
why I thought it too be good. Is there no way
to burn LOTR in one disk using dvdxcopy
gold, or must I use dvd shrink?
thanks for any reply in advance

Use DVD Shrink, its alot better and the quality on one disc is near perfect anyway.

Use the guides here at AD or use the links below for any help ;D

xcopy gold will split dvd9 to 2 dvd5. It does not compress. If you want a movie (LOTR: two towers) on one dvd5, you will need to compress using shrink, DVD2One, xcopyexpress.
