I am waiting for my wii to arrive and would like to clarify about backing up my software.

if i do the following:

fit mod chip
fit relevant LG drive
then download the software

will i then be able to back up my games, and play them.

or will i have to have the modchip flashed. if so then does anyone know of a good link for this, considering that im not greatly computer minded.

any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

You will need a Modchip. I have the WiiD which I have not had any trouble with at all. Every Wii game backup has booted plus all my Game Cube games work as well. The WiiD has all the features as other Modchips plus it has the ability to be disabled. Where Wiikey does not.

Updating the firmware of your Modchip is easy. Any Modchip you get will have a website to download the newest firmware they offer. Most all Modchips use DVD as the method to update. So all you need to do is download the firmware off your Nodchip website and burn the image to DVD using Nero. Then place the DVD upgrade disc in the Wii and start the Disc Channel and the update will be updated to the Modchip.

If you want to dump a Wii game to your computer you will need 1 of the following DVD-ROM drives...

LG-8164b or LG-8163b or LG-8162b or LG-8161b

Plus you will need a program called Rawdump2.0 If you do not have 1 of the LG burners then you can simply download a copy of a game you have off the net and back the game up that way.

Any DVD burner will burn the Wii games. Use Nero or IMGBurn to burn the ISO to disc. Use quality DVD media to burn to (Verbatim/Tayio Yeden) Once you find media that works well with your Wii stick with it.

You will also want to get a Tri-Wing screwbit to open up your Wii when installing the Modchip.

I agree with larrylje! He helped me decide on what chip to get, and I also went with the WiiD! It has worked great for me, and I haven't had any problems with it yet! I have the LG-8164b, and it works really well! But, if you are thinking of a chip to go with, go with the WiiD! The WiiKey is coming up with all these clones and crap, and I would just go with the WiiD, so you won't be fooled! That's just me though...

Thinone is correct. You use the button that is next to (Dump) that says (convert raw to ISO) to convert it from the dump file (.wii) to an ISO file (.iso).

You might not have to then if it automaticly does it. I have never dumped a Wii game. But I do know that is what the button is for.
