Now that I finally have I Wii, I am considering buying a wiikey. I do have a few questions though:
Is the Wiikey the best option as far as mods go for the Wii?
Will it ever be out of date?
Does it come with all of the wires and things that you need to solder the chip to the Wii?
Is it hard to solder it to the Wii? I've done some soldering, but I don't want to ruin my Wii.

Thanks to anyone who helps me out here.

And also is there a list of types of blank dvds that do not work with the Wii?

There will always be a debate on what Modchip is best.

The downside that I have read on Wiikey Modchips is I have seen allot of complaints about how crappy the compatibility it has for GameCube games. Plus it does not have an option to disable the chip. Most Modchips that are out now have that feature but the Wiikey doesn't.

Some Wiikey users will say a disable option isn't necessary for a Modchip at this time. Which is true but I would rather have the option to disable the Modchip if soon down the road it will be needed.

There are also allot of clones out for the Wiikey so if you do decide with 1 make sure you get the real deal. You might also want to hold off on getting a Wiikey since their website http://www.wiikey.cn has been down for the past week with no official word of why. So allot of Wiikey buyers have had trouble getting the updated setup disc for their Wiikey.

I have a WiiD myself and have had no trouble with it. All the Wii game backups play on it plus all the GameCube Games (Over 50) play with no problem as well. The WiiD has all the features as what Wiikey does plus more. (Disabling feature)

All Modchips will get outdated. It just depends on how quick the Modding Scene develops better Modchips that run Homebrew plus makes the compatibility better. So I am sure you will see 2nd generation Modchips coming out sometime in the near future.

It depends if you order extra options with the Modchip. I got my WiiD from http://www.modchipstore.com and it gives you the option to buy a wire/solder kit with the Modchip and also gives you the option to buy the tri-wing screwbit which you will need to open up the Wii.

I suck at soldering but took the chance and installed mine. I didn't think it was all that hard. But I have seen allot of users that have had trouble and ruined their unit. So it depends on how you feel about your soldering skills. If it looks to hard then send it out to a pro to install it.

Most will always recommend using quality media (Verbatim/Tayio Yuden) But I also have seen some users say that even those wouldn't work on their Wii. Wii's can be very picky at what media they will read best. So you will need to find that out yourself and when you do stick with that media. Do not change to another.
