is XviD pretty much the same as DivX when it comes to Home dvd players? 99% of the dvd players i see at best buy say DivX on them, and only one (LG) says DivX and XviD on the box. does the box have to say XviD on it in order to play that format, or will any DivX dvd player play XviD?

Many will, in fact the vast majority will. If you are thinking of buying a particular model , try Googling for it eg by typing Maker Model number XviD into Google.
