Might be a memory issue - 88% is in use. Add another 256mb if you can.

But the error you're getting is a power calibration error.
This can be caused by firmware not up to date (yours is), media, lens of the drive dirty, power to the drive or the drive itself.

What media are you using - not showing in the log. A switch of media may solve it.
Try cleaning the lens with a dvd lens cleaner or blowing some canned air in there.

The drive is an older one w/ no support since 2004 - only cd's fail or do dvd's to?

Update Nero - just package 1 to 6.6.1.15a

Did you reboot after the new install of Nero?

Try this uninstall the secondary ide channel. Might not help the burn failure but see if the drive shows up. Guide is for DMA but shows how you uninstall. guide

I got the drive back & rebooted, but it still failed.this was a power calibration error which usually means media.I have been using the same batches with no problems thanks again

Since dvd's burn ok - I'm kinda leaning towards the drive. It may be on it's way out. The firmare is up to date and you're now having problems w/ 2 different brands of media.
Try cleaning the lens too.

Here's a solutions from Nero's website (I left out try different media & up date the firmware since that's been tried):
# Try different power connectors, and for recorders, do not share power with other devices. It needs its own power connector. If the error occurs with an external recorder, the power source in the chassis could be the cause. As a test, try to take the recorder out of the external chassis and connect it internal.
# Try different configurations, such as taking the CD-ROM to the primary IDE bus as slave and have only the recorder connected to the secondary IDE bus as master.
# Send the recorder in for service.

Yep that's my understanding of the lens bit.

If nothing is really changed pc wise and the way it's burning dvd's I think it's time for a new one.
They are so much cheaper now. Look at LiteOn's or Pioneers.
LiteOn don't require high PC specs.

Oh and you're welcome!
